csueb admission change

I recently looked at Cal State East Bay's nursing page and it said something interesting regarding the point system..looks like they are now giving extra points for the native students? What does this mean? Do you think you still have a shot if you don't have these points?

  • 50 points - for prerequisite GPA (based on submitted grades). Each repetition of a prerequisite course within a 7-year period will result in a deduction of 5 points.
  • 40 points - for TEAS (Adjusted Individual Total Score)
  • 10 points - for CSUEB native students (current students who were first-time freshman at time of university admission) that took ALL FIVEnursing SCIENCE prerequisites at CSUEB. ***Effective for Fall 2013 admission.
  • 5 points - for speaking and writing proficiency in English and one other language. Applicant must provide a voucher for non-English language and score minimum 50th percentile on the English and Reading sections of the TEAS.
  • 5 points - for the equivalent of at least 6 months full-time or 1 year part-time paid employment in a health care setting providing direct patient care.

The 10 points for native students are just "extra" points, similar to the 5 points for knowing another language & 5 points working in a health care setting.

The main points they take into consideration is the gpa (50 points) and the teas (40 points).

The other points are add-ons to boost up your score.

I know they 10 points for native students are extra points to honor them in some way for being at the university and wanting to apply for nursing.
