CSU Urine Sample in UK

Hello,

I am asking this question to the UK nurses as it appears that the procedure is different in the UK and USA.

I've never gotten a CSU urine specimen and am on my third yr in training now. I am way too embarrased to tell people about this at work because I know I will be judged.

The Royal Marsden does not actually show a picture- but where exactly is the sampling port?? Is it the silicone/rubber area on the white plastic part of the catheter and what do we use to get a sample from it?

The Americans seem to use a 25G needle!

I would really appreciate your help. Thank you x

My first worry is that your afraid to ask for assistance with something you don't know. You really need to overcome this otherwise your not going to be a safe nurse.

I would much prefer my students to ask, even if it seems something simple it demonstrates insight, desire to learn and reflection

Please, ask your mentor to talk through it with you.

Take a look at these, but please ask your mentor to talk you through the procedure.

A THOUSAND times yes to this. You're a student. You haven't seen everything. Even once you're registered, you won't have seen everything. Don't ever undertake a new procedure without learning how to do it properly from someone who's qualified to teach it (and that does NOT include anonymous commenters on an Internet forum). Everyone was a learner at some point; don't ever be afraid to ask questions.

Yes they are right.

I have been working for

9 months now

In uk and every day I'm asking something because u are not gonna see and practice everything during your training
