CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2012)

U.S.A. California

Hello,

I thought I'd make this thread for the new application group... even though it's a bit late since we have to all apply soon!

Anyway! I want to apply for the Fall 2012 term but I had some questions. I am an current CSULA student that transferred to CSULA in Fall 2010. I'm a Psychology major but am applying for Fall 2012 Nursing. I haven't taken my TEAS yet, but I'll be taking that on Friday (!!), so I'm very nervous about that.

That said, this is my first question:

I've been getting mixed info from different people. When I visited the Academic Advising Office last Spring (2011), the adviser told me that as long as I did not graduate from CSULA BEFORE I graduated, I could apply to the SON as a BSN applicant. I called SON to see if I could even apply for the ELM program and they told me that as far as they knew, I could not because I did not have my Bachelor's Degree yet.

So right now, I have approximately 2 quarters left in order to finish my Psychology major, approximately 6~8 classes. Ideally, I could finish by Spring 2012, but depending on my other workloads, I could push it back to Fall 2012. The problem is that I'm not allowed to graduate if I want to go into the basic program so I can't apply for graduation just yet. But IF I don't get into the BSN program, then I have to wait another two quarters after May or June or whenever they send out acceptances in order to officially graduate.

So I went to go and talk to my adviser about graduation and if I should even bother applying for Spring 2012 graduation and she tells me that no, I'm not allowed to apply for a BSN but I can go for the ELM program.

Does anyone know which is true? The CSULA advisers tell me that I can't apply for the Basic program but I can apply for ELM while the SON says that I can't apply for ELM because I don't have my Bachelor's degree yet and I should apply for the BSN program. Other graduate schools like APU and UCLA have also told me the same thing - without a Bachelor's, I cannot get apply for the ELM program at their school.

Thank you~

It all depends on how your studying habits are, but usually it will take 2 years to finish the GE's and nursing pre-reqs. Also, with the current budget crisis csu's are experiencing, getting into a pre-req nursing class will be difficult. When I was taking my pre-reqs, I made sure that I did not have two major science courses in the same semester so I can focus on getting an A in them.

@fate4nursing15

Thank you for your advice. It is nice to hear feedback from people that have already been through this path. My goal is to get straight A's in all my classes. I want to be able to get into the nursing program.

Does anyone have any advice?

I got a call from SON last Friday saying that I am accepted. But that's because I was the next person to call if a spot got opened.

I will be waiting for a letter and sign that I will attend csula son.

Congrats on the acceptance

@jumpingfish21 and onesteph:

Hi guys,

Sorry it took so long to respond; I have been really busy and have not checked the website. I took all my pre-req courses at CSULA and finished all my courses in 2 years and applied and got accepted so I will be starting this september. Each quarter was really tough because I did 4 classes every quarter and one quarter I did 5 classes. But I managed to pull through and finish all my classes in time.

I am not going to lie it was very difficult to study and juggle family and a social life, but it is not impossible. Just need to really study, have amibtion and believe that you are able to pull through and get accepted. Always have a positive mind and help people around you. It's good to have a networking system so that you can study with people and help each other out. A lot of the time, the classes you are taking you will take with the same people...so familiar faces and networking with friends is always a plus.

Let me know if you need anything else, more than happy to help!

good luck!

Congrats Joy! yayyayay And everyone who got accepted!

I will be starting my nursing journey in September as well but not at CSULA, but at CSUSB! Whoo!

So again, congrats for everyone who got in (whether CSULA or somewhere else)!

Its going to be hard work, but I know we will all succeed!

Congrats on getting accepted to CSUSB Dark Blue! That's awesome! I knew you would get in :)

Yay Joy! Happy to have you in our class! Did you join the Facebook group yet?

Thanks Sirena!

Have you guys had orientation yet? Our isn't until August. I am so excited to start! Finally after waiting and waiting we can all start.

Congrats again everyone

No, our orientation isn't till the day before school starts in September! I wish it was sooner because it seems like a lot of us have so many questions. They are running behind and we haven't even received our packets in the mail yet. I'm getting antsy waiting! When do you start?

Oh really? The day before class starts? How do they expect you to do clinicals if you dont know what vaccines to get?! Weird...

And i would be antsy too if I havent received anything yet. I barely got my letter last week. CSUSB posts a list up of accepted students and they posted it up super early. I saw the pic on our thread but I drove down there and wanted to see it myself. There my name was, smack dab in the middle lol.

Ya we have orientation 8/7 and then a bbq for new students presented by the nursing club a few days later. I know how you feel, I have all this time on my hands with nothing to do but work. I can't go out much because I am broke and trying to save so I just sit around waiting to hear the next step. I want to start making doc appts to get my vaccines and get started on the drug test and background check but most programs have forms for the docs and stuff to sign.

I actually got accepted to RCCs program before I even heard from CSUSB and I went to their orientation. I got a lot of info of what they expected of their students and what is needed for clinicals and stuff. It was very overwhelming! But at least I got my culture shock done already. I can walk into CSUSB orientation and have already seen what they most likely expect. The only positive thing is that orientation is early enough that I can everything done before the start of school in late Sept. I think we start clinicals the 5th week or so?

I am actually really excited and want to start ASAP! I basically want summer to be over and school to start now (I say that now, but wait until the program actually starts, I bet I will be putting my foot in my mouth). I have already been kinda school shopping (I am a nerd and love school shopping time!) and was at B&N today looking at NCLEX books to start glancing at. Wow I have no life lol...

Anyway...I really hope you get your packet. I would just ask if you can drive down there and get it. Sounds like they are very behind. Tell'em to hurry up already!

I understand how your feel; however, be patient, the packets will be arriving to you soon.
