CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2012)

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello,

I thought I'd make this thread for the new application group... even though it's a bit late since we have to all apply soon!

Anyway! I want to apply for the Fall 2012 term but I had some questions. I am an current CSULA student that transferred to CSULA in Fall 2010. I'm a Psychology major but am applying for Fall 2012 Nursing. I haven't taken my TEAS yet, but I'll be taking that on Friday (!!), so I'm very nervous about that.

That said, this is my first question:

I've been getting mixed info from different people. When I visited the Academic Advising Office last Spring (2011), the adviser told me that as long as I did not graduate from CSULA BEFORE I graduated, I could apply to the SON as a BSN applicant. I called SON to see if I could even apply for the ELM program and they told me that as far as they knew, I could not because I did not have my Bachelor's Degree yet.

So right now, I have approximately 2 quarters left in order to finish my Psychology major, approximately 6~8 classes. Ideally, I could finish by Spring 2012, but depending on my other workloads, I could push it back to Fall 2012. The problem is that I'm not allowed to graduate if I want to go into the basic program so I can't apply for graduation just yet. But IF I don't get into the BSN program, then I have to wait another two quarters after May or June or whenever they send out acceptances in order to officially graduate.

So I went to go and talk to my adviser about graduation and if I should even bother applying for Spring 2012 graduation and she tells me that no, I'm not allowed to apply for a BSN but I can go for the ELM program.

Does anyone know which is true? The CSULA advisers tell me that I can't apply for the Basic program but I can apply for ELM while the SON says that I can't apply for ELM because I don't have my Bachelor's degree yet and I should apply for the BSN program. Other graduate schools like APU and UCLA have also told me the same thing - without a Bachelor's, I cannot get apply for the ELM program at their school.

Thank you~

I just got rejected! Ah I knew it!

Oh well. I hopefully will be attending CSUSBs program. Pray I get in guys!

Good luck to everyone! Enjoy your free time now!

;( I'm sad. I'll be praying that you get in elsewhere, and I'm positive you will, but I'm still bummed.

What! Dark! How did they notify you!

Via email.

I got it in my inbox and knew my chances were shot. Its ok....honestly, I knew it all along. I just wish my $100 didn't go down the drain because of it. And it sucks because I wasted a lot of time worrying about it and calling and all they told me was 'they were still working on it.' Seriously? Come on.

Anyway I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I moved to SB county and applied to CSUSB. I really hope and pray that I get in there. Its my last shot at a BSN program. From the looks of things, I am pretty even with the other applicants in the thread. I just have to wait until July to find out if I am in or not (ridiculous eh?). I am attending their orientation this Saturday. And I found out if I attend CSUSB, I am covered by grants and not loans. That makes me happy that I won't have to take out loans to get my education like I did before. Maybe this rejection is a blessing in disguise. I sure hope so.

Now for everyone still waiting to hear, be patient. If you can't be patient, go to the office or call. The waiting is more agonizing then finally getting notified. For those that go rejected, its ok. Things happen, maybe even for a reason.

For those who got in. You will have to work hard from here on out. Enjoy your summer as best you can. Work hard at school and pass with flying colors. You all will make good nurses someday! I only hope to join your ranks soon. It will be a different school but same program ideally. Cross your fingers for me guys!

I got rejected too! But I'm not surprised either. I guess I'm going to have to stick with ADN program for now. I believe everything happens for a reason. I know eventually we will become RNs. Hopefully you get in CSUSB Dark! It's okay if things don't work out the way we want them to because there are differnt ways to achieve our goals. We just have to stay positive!

I still haven't heard back from them, so weird.

I got rejected but I don't agree to what this person told me through phone...... hear me out

Today after i got the rejection email stating that I don't have enough points which really threw me off because I was sure I have 25/31 points so I called in and talk to this person. And he said that I have 19 points because of my Chem class that I have a C, which Im sure 100% that I have an A in the chem class so I had him to clarify...

He said this

"We look at the first passing Chem class that you took during your college years, and you have a C grade for your chem 180 during 2008"

Here is the dilemma, my junior college nursing counselor (at golden west college) told me to take this Chem 110 class because this is one of the prereq. classes that all the CSU school look at. Now this person told me something else completely. From what I understand he said that basically any passing CHEM class would be consider...

here is my proof

ASSIST Report: GWC 11-12 CSULA Articulation Agreement by Majorcroll down to CHEM 151, the equivalent course for that is 110 which I had an A

so who do you guys think is right....

@thong If that is the case, you should go to the nursing office and show them the error they have made. It is unfair that they looked that the incorrect chem class when it clearly shows that Chem 110 is the correct equivalent of CSULA Chem 151. I took two chem courses during my college career. One was for engineering while the other was for nursing. I received a "C" on my engineering chem course while getting an A on my nursing one. If I was in your position, I would go fight for it.

I am sorry this happened to you. But what they are going to say is that whatever general chem class you took, will count first. Regardless if both transfer or not. They take the first class taken in each category. If you took one general chemistry class and got a C, then they will take that over the other chemistry class you took later. Regardless of the grade. Like you, that is how my points dropped from 24 to 19 as well. It is not fair and pretty ridiculous especially since we took totally DIFFERENT classes and didn't repeat the same class.

I am just warning you what they will say. I would try and fight it but keep in mind that they have the last word and tons of other applicants to choose if someone gets huffy (I do not blame you though).

@Dark, I took two Chem classes and the SoN used the Chem that I needed for nursing.

oh well, i dont know that is just what i think they will say.

hi everyone,I just got accepted last week but I am concerned about the background check because I have a misdemeanor from 2 years ago. It is still in the process of being expunged but I hope it gets done before we have to turn in background checks so it doesn't show up. It's a non violent misdemeanor and it's not DUI. Does anyone know when we have to turn in everything by including background checks? and if te expungement doesn't go thru before its due, would csula kick me out of the program? does anyone know anyone who's been in the same situation before?
