CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2012)

U.S.A. California

Hello,

I thought I'd make this thread for the new application group... even though it's a bit late since we have to all apply soon!

Anyway! I want to apply for the Fall 2012 term but I had some questions. I am an current CSULA student that transferred to CSULA in Fall 2010. I'm a Psychology major but am applying for Fall 2012 Nursing. I haven't taken my TEAS yet, but I'll be taking that on Friday (!!), so I'm very nervous about that.

That said, this is my first question:

I've been getting mixed info from different people. When I visited the Academic Advising Office last Spring (2011), the adviser told me that as long as I did not graduate from CSULA BEFORE I graduated, I could apply to the SON as a BSN applicant. I called SON to see if I could even apply for the ELM program and they told me that as far as they knew, I could not because I did not have my Bachelor's Degree yet.

So right now, I have approximately 2 quarters left in order to finish my Psychology major, approximately 6~8 classes. Ideally, I could finish by Spring 2012, but depending on my other workloads, I could push it back to Fall 2012. The problem is that I'm not allowed to graduate if I want to go into the basic program so I can't apply for graduation just yet. But IF I don't get into the BSN program, then I have to wait another two quarters after May or June or whenever they send out acceptances in order to officially graduate.

So I went to go and talk to my adviser about graduation and if I should even bother applying for Spring 2012 graduation and she tells me that no, I'm not allowed to apply for a BSN but I can go for the ELM program.

Does anyone know which is true? The CSULA advisers tell me that I can't apply for the Basic program but I can apply for ELM while the SON says that I can't apply for ELM because I don't have my Bachelor's degree yet and I should apply for the BSN program. Other graduate schools like APU and UCLA have also told me the same thing - without a Bachelor's, I cannot get apply for the ELM program at their school.

Thank you~

I am completely done with all of my prerequistes, I am working while free and I am looking to enroll in a nutrition class.

The time has gone by so fast since this thread first started!!! We now have about a week+ left of waiting!!!

I'm hoping we'll only have 2 more days of waiting and start hearing something on Monday!

the final wait is agonizing huh? so close yet so far! And regarding the $100 deposit. I think it be better to get a written statement from the admissions office, because let me tell you, CSULA's administration sucks. Take it from someone who goes there. They've messed up so many things for me its not even funny. So I would recommend you get a written statement from the office so you can blame them if something goes wrong (not that they'll admit to it anyways) but its worth a try.

So this information is based on last year so dont assume anything. I applied last year in CSULA's SON with I believe 18 points and they told me that Ive been rejected the week before my final which is the first week of June. I had several friends that got an acceptance letter late April and they were on top of the list because they had 28-30 points. CSULA's SON accepted the applicants with the highest points first then they do several wave of acceptances each week. If you are within the borderline (I believe its 20 points but Im not sure) you might not get any response til June. I know someone that got a call from the SON days before school started and got accepted. Im a CSULA student btw.

Thanks for the info csup. For the people that did not do the 100$ deposit, I suggest that you just pay it if you do not hear from the SoN by April 30. There is no telling if the admission office of csula will accept late payments since most of them have poor customer service. Better safe than sorry!

i had the same problem with CSUSB....BUT i emailed the admissions director and she wrote back that I would get a refund if I wasn't admitted to their program. I am keeping that email as proof.

since I dont expect anything from CSULA, I am not paying crap. I wish they would just send all the notices at the same time. Because if you are low on the point totem pole, and you didn't pay because people already got acceptances letters; then you get like an acccept/high alternate letter and now you can't pay! ***

Not saying that will be my problem, but just say'in

csula's nursing program may be good, but it also sucks too. It ****** me off that CSULA students don't get priority when it comes to admissions. Plus, if you get an A- in any class, that automatically drops your GPA to a 3.8, which sucks for me because i would have a 4.0 if it werent for the A-'s.

Azhan, if you got a 3.8 you will still get 10 points for the prereq section.

Seriosuly don't get into the transfers vs csula students. Transfers should have every right to apply to any csu program they choose. Plus transfers stats are always considerably higher than csu students anyway. And I am a csu student too

hey azhan, it is what it is. With a 3.8 GPA, you will most likely get in. I would be upset too if I were in your position, but the SoN wants the best of students. It's unfair to admit someone with a lower GPA just because they go to that school. I trust their system in that they have one of the highest pass rates for NCLEX. Whatever they're doing, it's working. So...let's all be patient until we get the news....THEN, let's vent/get angry/whatever. :)

It's the Sunday before the supposed acceptance week!!!Stay strong everyone and stay hopeful!! We had a student speaker from CSULA at my school, who transferred from the school I attend. She applied and at first she did not get in but she was notified that a spot had opened up for her 2 or 3 weeks before school started. She took the spot and she is now an RN. You never know what will happen guys so stay optimistic and strong.

I have gotten all A's and I don't have a 4.0 either because the school I went to has the +/- system too. I don't think it's unfair, it's just the way it is. Grades are only one part of the selection process anyway. The rest of the criteria have nothing to do with grades, so everyone has an opportunity to get adequate points. As I have said before, we are all competing with transfers no matter where you go to school.
