CSU Long Beach BSN Spring 2023

Published

Hi everyone! I know application cycle starts in August but I wanted to create this forum just in case somebody has questions and perhaps share some stats.

Mine are:

Science GPA: 4.0

Cumulative GPA: 4.0

TEAS Composite: 98.0

TEAS Reading: 93.6

I hope we can create a group chat of some sort so it's easier for us to communicate whenever someone has questions during the application period!

Thanks! I got the official offer today. I am considering the accelerated program, but I'm wondering if it didn't end up working out for me, could I move to the traditional BSN track? I think they mentioned something about this during the comm exercise, but do you know if this is possible?

Congrats!! And yes it is! I'm doing the accelerated track and I like it because we get more autonomy at the hospital since we have the same clinical site through the entire program (Long Beach Memorial) vs semester having multiple. I also heard that semester only gets a few days in the ICU vs us getting an entire semester in the ICU. There's pros and cons to both. I'm not going to lie I'm always exhausted because I've gone a year without a real break since the one week break we get between semesters is spent preparing for the next. But, you get a month break between fall/Spring and the added bonus of graduating a year ahead of when the semester track would.

Wait a year ahead ? Isn't trimester only going to be a semester ahead ?
trimester 2 years while semester is 2.5

Not if you start in Spring! It's pretty much a year ahead. But if you start in the fall it's a semester ahead (technically 2 if you count Summer plus fall).

If you start in the Spring with the trimester pathway, then you'll have 2 summers which are accelerated (12 weeks I think, I forget). It's a lot of work but completely doable and it goes by super fast! I started Spring 23 and for second semester we had intermediate med surg lecture and clinical, health assessment lecture and lab, pharmacology, then gerontology which was asynch. It was seriously like a fever dream LOL I barely remember going through it. But they switched pharmacology to first semester now so it should be way less crazy. Also clinical days in the Summer are 12hrs vs 8hrs in Spring and fall, that way you get all of your required hours.

I see, thanks so much for explaining! How long are the breaks btw ? Do you still have a Summer break as a trimester even if short ?

Sure, no problem! You get one week long breaks between Spring, Summer, and fall semesters, and a month long break between fall and Spring. Then you also have a week for Spring break in April and fall break in November.
