CSN RN Spring 2013

U.S.A. Nevada

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and I was wondering if there are any fellow CSN RN Spring '13 hopefuls out there. I just turned in my application today and I would love to get to know some of my potential classmates through this forum :)

Pharmacology and the Nursing process 6th ed, Lilley. this semester. The 100b used to be Math and Dosage Calc by Booth & Whaley.

Hi everyone, this is my first time on here. I may not even be asking in the right place, but, just want honest feedback on whether or not 41 is too old to get started in nursing. I have no undergraduate degree, all I have is a dream. Just went through a major transition in careers and now I'm trying to find out what I'm going to be when I grow up. Any insight would be helpful. I'm going to see the CSN counselor tomorrow and see what they say. This is a whole new world to me. Thanks in advance for any input! :nailbiting:
Your story is very similar to mine and we are the same age. Although it was daunting the first time I walked into a classroom, I couldn't imagine my life without school now. The ages of students vary from 16 to 75 and no matter what you decide to do you are never too old to learn new things! Good luck and let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Thanks!!! I also found an iPhone app for nclex questions....something from Kaplan and it seems quite interesting.

Hopefully the new week will bring us some new information from the school!

You should never feel too old. Challenges come all through out life in all different measures. What would life be without new beginnings and adventures? Go for it and good luck! :)

Thanks for the info! I think I might try to buy at least some of the first semester books from the store if they are available once I find out for sure if I'm in so I can start reviewing. I hear they run about $800...is that true? Also, I was wondering about the first semester intro clinical. Where is yours at? I've heard different things about it being at a hospital or ltc. Thanks for your input... I really appreciate it!
Try amazon and eBay before you pay full price for books. I would also recommend renting your books. :). Way cheaper that way!

I found some great deals on amazon! The book I used in math 100b was under a dollar with free shipping. It's an old edition but when I used it I got a B in the class without even trying much. Unfortunately I took the class almost 2 years ago and I have forgotten the info. I tried renting once but I decided to keep the book since it was a good reference tool so I ended up just paying the used price at the end of the semester. I never sell my books anymore because this is going to be the 2nd time I'm re-buying something for reference. I have a small library in my house with all of the books I have accumulated in 9 years of college!! :)

Just letting you know, they do go over what you need to know before they make you take the dosage calculation test. If you can do algebra, you can do the dosage calculation test. I am not saying it's easy...I am just saying they won't make you take the test without giving you all the tools you need first. :) I got all my books from Amazon for my first semester and I saved more than 300 bucks compared to the price they were charging at the campus book store "bundle" pricing. You can get every single item on the list from on line sources except that check list which is exclusively for CSN students only. By the way, this waiting is so painful... :blackeye:

Hi everyone,

I started getting nervous about not hearing from the school so i started looking around for forums and happened upon this one. Thank you so much for starting it and all the information posted on it. I applied with 29 points so it sounds like i should be good but i will drive myself crazy until i get the call. However i wont be as crazy since i know there was such a low number of applicants. I really hope they start making those calls soon. I also hope they dont alter the number of students allowed in. As long as the applicants pre-reqs are completed i dont think it would be fair decide to allow less students into the program but that is just my opinion.

For anyone who is already in the program i was wondering about the immunizations. When do we have to have them all completed by? Is it the first day of class or do we have some extra time?

You will need them done by the time you have your meeting with your advisor, which is a few weeks before classes start. You have to have a clinical ticket before you can go to clinical, and that requires CPR, background check, drug screen, immunizations, proof of health insurance, step 2 TB test. The only thing you won't have will be your last HepB shot if you don't already have the series, but you will need it before 2nd semester starts!

Spring Semester starts Jan 22nd (from the CSN calendar) :)

I had blood titers done showing my immunity to everything including Hep B...do you think that will suffice? Hopefully all I will need to get is the 2 step TB. I had my TdaP done this year so I'm ok with that...ahhhh I'm so anxious!!! Last year the Spring '12 class found out Oct 19 so I'm hoping we might get lucky and hear that soon too! I don't think I can handle the stress of not knowing any longer!

I was paranoid (or shall I say my paranoia began and never ended) over the summer about turning in my application too early and I stumbled upon this site and I've been hooked ever since. I check for new info here at least twice a day :) I too am going crazy waiting for "the call". Every time I hear my phone ring, I panic! I'm going nuts over this!

I agree, it won't be very fair if some people don't get in even though they have all of their pre-reqs done. I guess that would be their way of "saving money" but it would suck for us though....
