CSN RN FALL 2013

I've read a lot about it in the past threads. I would be interested to hear what Christina and SunshineDaisy have to say....I've taken a ton of online classes and I wonder if familiarity with self-paced/online classes makes a difference? Like a fool I will be working full time, caring for my new child, and full time classes... I was hoping to be able to leave my job, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. So I hope I can swing the online class...because I think that may be all I have time for.[/quote']
The only online classes that I have ever taken were US History I, NV History & Math 100b. I really didn't want to take a nursing class online and did not for this semester because I was unsure. To be honest, there is nowhere near enough time in a 2-3 hour lecture to discuss all of the material for the week so it may not even matter. But I suppose that it depends on the instructor but I can't really tell you much about online nursing classes. I spend at least 30-40 hours a week outside of class working on fundamentals and pharmacology so the fact that you will save 5 hours a week by not going to lecture may not benefit you so much. Maybe if I ever take an online class I will have a better opinion but right now I can say that my in-class lectures are great but I still spend a ton of time outside of class studying.
Now, about work...the only person out of the people I talk to (which really isn't many) that was working (part time) ended up quitting the program after the 1st round of tests. I'm not working right now and I really don't know how I will have time once I go back to working limited hours after spring break and I don't even have kids! I would really recommend to cut way back on work if you can!

The problem with the online classes is that you are teaching yourself a lot. Most people I know who have taken online classes don't care for them, not the nursing classes anyway. It is a VERY rigorous program. I know people who do work FT and make it through, but I know more who quit work to make it through. From what I know the time commitment is still the same, minus the drive to/from school. And you still have to go to school for the tests. Shoot, I sent my kids to Tn for this last semester because there is so much involved! I would say school alone, between lectures, labs, clinical and studying is at least 30-35 hours a week!

I wish I didn't have to work (and am still working on it...), but it appears to be my reality at the moment. All I can do is put my head down, study hard and hope it works out. it's going to be tough, I know. :yawn:

Wouldn't that be nice! I was told that the selection process takes a few hours so I really don't understand why they torture everyone for months if it takes no time for them to decide. Hopefully they won't make you wait too long this time!

Has anyone called since the deadline to see how many applications they got?

I only called to find out orientation dates bc I need to fly in from out of town for the first one. The first one is May 20. They are unsure of the second one. She said they are trying for the first or second Friday in August.

Kevin, that's right! i forgot that you posted you were moving here for school. Out of curiosity, what made you choose CSN? Not that it's not been lovely for the many years I've been attending... :)

On another vein, I did get some of the things we will need. Not much, but some. I also swung by the immunization place, but didn't have my CSN ID (gives you half off!) nor did I have the list of required immunizations. Oops...

If you email --------------------- she will be able to answer your questions. She was quite helpful when I was in your shoes last year. She told me herself that she sometimes ignores the phone calls

Did you calls the limited entry office or the nursing office? The nursing office was able to give me that info before :)

My wife and I used to live out there when she went to Nevada State for nursing. We are moving back for a couple of reasons. One of them being that the nursing programs here have waiting lists. They do not base it on pts like CSN. I chose CSN bc I had the prerequisites done and I will just do my bsn online.
