CSN RN FALL 2013

Published

Anyone here applying for fall? :)

gggrrrrlllll....I've heard the same thing!!! I've heard the rundown on the lottery thing, and I've also heard they're getting rid of the lottery. UGH!

D.Borden, if you're asking if I'm in the program, nope. I'm waiting for my call! if you were asking someone else...oops. :)

From what I hear we are going to need ALOT of books for the first semester and my husband and I really need to spread out all of this money so its not all at once! So I was wondering if all the books that the bookstore says will be needed are really needed. I think for Nurs 101 there was like 5 or 6 books we needed to get.. its craziness!!

Christina are you in the program now?[/quote']

Yes, I'm about to finish my 1st semester

oh my goodness...your comment says "christina"....you totally weren't talking to me! oops.. :)

I'm sure Christina or Sunshine Daisy can weigh in on this...but I've heard approx $750 in books through the bookstore (with ebook access) and approx $400 through elsewhere (amazon, for example) without ebook access. I'm hoping they haven't changed the editions since last year because I have an "in" for some used ones! I've heard that if you don't have the proper edition, you get a learning contract (I think that's what it's called....you get in trouble for not having the right stuff).

Do you recommend amazon for books and what not?

We are trying to do the same!! It is a little overwhelming!

There is a bundle with like 11 books (all new-they don't sell used nursing 101 books there) that comes from the bookstore which costs over $700 but you probably won't use them all. I got a list at my first orientation with all of the required & recommended books so if they give you one I would consider buying them used on amazon. Heck, even if you buy them new on amazon I'm sure it will be cheaper than the bookstore. There might be a few things like your skills checklist and a skills cd that you will need to buy there though.

I probably should just chill out until FIRST I find out if I was selected and SECOND the first orientation.. Im just so ready to get stuff done!

Good luck clynne 2009, I hope we both get in(:

I am on my way out of the program :o

And I agree, get the books on Amazon for cheaper if you can! Some of them will be used every semester.

The books do cost over $700 through the bookstore. I spent about another $300 on other non-required books (that I have hardly read). They do come with ebook access which I would not spend the money on, the platform they use is not very good in my opinion. You can also get ebooks only for about $350. When I got my fancy expensive box of books from the bookstore I priced all of them on amazon and I could have gotten all 11 of them for about $400. You do the math and see what works for you money-wise. I will NOT be buying any more books from the bookstore as long as they tell me the titles and edition number. And as far as the editions, they say that you "should" get the most current edition but they will not give you a learning contract if you don't have the current edition. It might be a bit confusing to try to find info quickly because they change the page numbers. I actually got 3 used versions of the prior editions books for under $5 each on amazon just to reference before I made the big purchase. I would do what's best for YOUR wallet. To be honest, I do the majority of my studying from the powerpoints and I am getting A's & B's on the exams in both fundamentals and pharmacology and I just scored a Level 3 (the highest level you can get) on the ATI fundamentals exam and I'm no genius. I use the book to supplement something that isn't clear in the powerpoints. I wouldn't say that you don't need the books; because you do, but I feel like I spent a ton of money that I didn't have for something that I don't use all the time. Between tuition, books, supplies and uniforms I spent about $2500 on 1st semester. If I were you, I would pinch pennies where you can.

Maybe once you get the book list one of you can post it and I will give you some tips as to what you really need and what you really don't need.
