CSN: Prerequisite BIOL 189

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on applying for CSN for the RN program for Fall 2014 and I'm missing BIOL 189, BIOL 223, BIOL 224 and BIOL 251.

I was planning on taking BIOL 189 Spring semester and BIOL 223 Summer semester, however, I heard that it's incredibly hard to do that because lots of people try to take BIOL 189 and BIOL 223 wasn't offered this past Summer semester.

I am currently an undergrad student at the UW in Seattle, WA, and I will finish my BA up in December. Which is why I can't start at CSN earlier.

I looked if I could take BIOL 189 at a CC in Seattle but they have different prerequisites up there.

Has anyone any advice on how I could take BIOL 189 maybe online at another CC or before Spring semester 2014? I'm afraid I won't get in the first time I register for it. Taking it during Fall would also speed up my prerequisite progress.

Biol 189 has a lab component that cannot be completed online. I've been a student at CSN for many years and I have not seen them offer 223 or 224 over the summer. Also, it's not likely that you will be accepted without the extra points you get for 224 and 251. All of the biology classes that you need are very difficult to get into at CSN. I would advise that you to try and take them at UNLV or NSC if you have trouble getting into them at CSN. You won't have any problems with pre req's or transfers if you stick with those schools. Another thing, you must have biol 189 and 223 completed with a grade posted before you can apply. Therefore if you take 223 in the summer of 2014 (hypothetically) you won't be able to apply for Fall 2014 because the application is due March 1 and you would still be taking 189 at that time. In that case you will have to wait until Spring 2015 to apply. Spring applications are due Sept 1.

I wanted to talk to an advisor about all this but when I called to schedule an appointment they said they don't have an opening until November ... which was after registration actually.

For NSC - if I just take one class each semester or two in Fall probably to apply for Spring 2015 at CSN: I would just have to apply as a part-time student, right? I guess I'll just call them tomorrow and ask them.
