hey...
so i start at the charleston campus aug 25th.
i "declared" my major as nursing.
but i still have a few things i need to get done before i start..i need to take my placement tests and actually register for my classes.
this will be my first year in college in general..
i have a few questions that i cant seem to find the answers to.
how does the rn program work?.i know its a 2 year program but what im confused on is how its broken up.
so once i start school do i jump right into my gen ed/prereqs? then after my first year i sign up for the actual nursing? can i finish my gen ed in less than a year?
is there a waiting list?
i just unsure how it all works...i havent spoke with a consuler yet but i just want to know whats going to happen and if its going to take 2 years or more?...
sorrrryyyy so manny questions and all but im desperate theses days lol..
thanks

maybe i can help.. you need to get your prereqs done and get the highest grades you can. you need to get with a consuler and also the nursig dept, because they require some things to get in the program. like volunteer and take the NLN, get as many points as you can.
CSN is very competitive but well worth it...
i'm sure you will get alot of good ideas at this board...keep us posted on your journey through school
aw thank you!.
ok yeah i need to do that when i get there
im in georgia right now but leave for vegas the 15th....ill be greeted by a nice 105 degree im sure but ill be fine..
yeah i read i need to take a health orientaion? hopefully i will be let in...
so i have to take the NLN and the placement tests?
or are they the same thing?
so did you go to CSN?
i went to csn but i went through the lpn TO
to finish my answer... i went through the LPN to RN bridge and had to not worry about any of those tests. or points... i was accepted on GPA only. CSN has a excellent program and very competitive. when i applied to the program a few years ago 400 applied and 100 were accepted. i was accepted first time and passed boards with 75 questions first time. i have great respect for the teachers and the program is tried and true to pass boards.
keep your grades high and get as many points as you can to get in the program ... it is worth it all...
keep me posted on how you are doing.... i am happy you are going to nursing school .. we need all the nurses we can get.... take care

It's only a 2 year program once you're actually accepted. It can take longer depending on how long it takes you to finish your prereqs. The best thing you can do is attend a health sciences program orientation...they explain everything really well - - and get those biology clasess out of the way along witht the gen ed classes!! You can take some classes concurently with Nursing...but if I were you...I would get them out of the way so you can focus ALL your time on nursing because you're going to need it. If you're full time you'll do Nurs 101 and Pharm 1st semester, Med/SurgI and Mental Health 2nd semester, Peds and Maternal Newborn 3rd semester, and Med/SurgII Preceptor, and a trasition class for the final semester.
I hope this helps a little. If you need any more information I can post more later. Good luck!! :heartbeat

Ok welcome to Vegas.
1) Sign up for BIO 189 if u didnt do it, coz i was not able to get this class in first semester it was already full. if u cannot sign up, on aug 7, actually nite of aug7, try to sign up around 11:30PM coz that is the time they drop the students who didnt pay for classes and believe me in 1 hour there will be no biology class again. you have to take all the Biology classes one by one except Biology 251 u can take that with biology 223 or 224.
2) so in second semester biology 223.
third biology 224, CSN never offer this class in summer there is another college nevada state they have it in summer.
3) Attend health program orientation.
4) u can tak eall other classes anytime like sociology 101, math 100b,but try to finish up with bio classes, in my first semester i had 5 classes.
5) Placement test and NLN tests are two different things.
Placement test is for them who never take any english class in college just to test where they stand. u dont have to do math placement. i cam efrom another country and took english placement test and it was so hard for me so according to my test score i had to take one ESL class, i dont know about your case.
6) NLN test is entrance test to get admission in nursing program. it is math, english, physics, biology and chemistry test. u can find a book for this test in college book store. when i took this test it was all from that book except english part.
i will suggest take that test whenever you r ready. if u look at CSN RN program Selection criteria u will see there are certain points for this test but you have to get 100 in test.
the mistake i did was, i was so lazy so didnt take the test for two years took in oct2006 and got only 105 points. i had no choice coz i could retake test after 6 months so didnt get any point for that test but thank god got accepted into program.
7) other thing is try to get A in every prereq class it is hard but not impossible.
best of luck. if u have anymore question let us know we all are here to answer.

Hello Newbie,
I have just applied for the RN program for next semester and there have been a few changes you may not be aware of. First, go to www.csn.edu/health you will find a lot of information there regarding the points, class requirements, breakdown of the program, selection information, testing information, and orientation dates. The NLN test that everyone is telling you about changes as of Sept. 1st to a new test!!! It is no longer the NLN, it's a new test with new requirements!!!! They don't have a lot of information about it on the web yet so you will have to get it from the health info. office. Also, you have to have ALL your prereqs and general ed. classes complete before you can begin the program. They discourage you from applying before your classes are complete (I know, I've tried! ). Focus on getting your classes done and I recomend you start with your sciences. Depending on what your schedule is like, it will take about 1 1/2yrs. to complete your classes. I hope this info. helps. Good luck!!!
