I have a question for all you Nursing Home/TCU/LTC nurses out there. I currently am a nurse in a outpatient dialysis unit and have received lots of feedback from my hospital nursing friends that taking care of dialysis patients is very challenging. Do you feel this same way? Do you feel like you know a lot about the extra care required? Do you feel like nurses at dialysis could do more to help you out? Should our coordination of care be different/better?

The biggest issue is communication between us and the dialysis center. We always send a notebook with our resident and hope the people at dialysis use the book to keep us informed about any changes.

I don't think they are much different or not any harder to take care of than the other medically complex residents that we have.
Open communication is very important. Our local center is very good about sending back info in a binder that we send with them. If not, we will call them.
