Cross Enrollment? Advice>.<

Published

Hi, I am a sophomore at sjsu and in the prenursing category. This semester i thought i would get my classes, but i basically am just enrolled in Micro 20 with five units. I am waitlisted in comm 20, ling 21, and pe. Biol 66 i wanted to take but it conflicted with micro. My problem is I need more classes to be considered at least 12 to get my financial aid. I am also a work study student so i need to be full. I can't do upper division because I haven't take wst and barely enough units. Also, I want to apply in the fall of 2014. I am scared I wont get the waitlisted classes and the other alternatives are all waitlisted for spring 14. I went to see my advisor and wanted me to switch to another major. But, I was thinking of enrolling in a community college and also at sjsu. I just do not know how the process works and if i will be able to still get my full financial aid? Also, which community college is good to apply to? I was thinking of deanza and mission since they are pretty close? What is the process to enroll and what is cross enrollment? I am so lost>.

I ran into the same problems while taking pre-reqs -- many of them were full with long wait lists.... so I enrolled in a nearby community college to take the necessary courses..

All you have to do is make application to the chosen community college.. take the classes that your college accepts.. then send your transcript to the uni when completed. easy peasy.

That being said.. the hours that you may take at the other college DO NOT county toward your hours to being counted full time at uni so they will not make you a full time student for financial aid.. they only way to do that is to actually be taking the required number of hours at the school that you are receiving your aid.

Best of luck.

You may be able to file a consortium agreement. The schools in my area allow them. You go to the cc and have the admissions office verify enrollment in the courses, then you take that verification to your uni and have an advisor verify the classes are for your major. Then you take he from your advisor signs for verification to your financial aid office. This deems you a full time student for grants, but you would not qualify for federal loans. Go talk to your financial aid rep at the uni to see if a consortium agreement is an option.
