Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are any people who want to start a CRNE (Canadian Registered Nurses Exam) Prep group or study group, whatever you may call it.
I just graduated and am scheduled to write in October. The reason why I wrote Toronto or Ottawa, is that I presently work and live in Toronto, having just graduated from Ryerson. I make it back home to Ottawa on the weekends, so am planning on hardcore studying in both cities!!!!!!
If we make a group, we can compile CRNE questions and go over material together. Any ideas would be very helpful. I heard the test is really hard now, and I personally know some people who have failed. Let me know, we can start as soon as July!

Hi Whatshoulido:
I did the exam last year in June and October as for my personal experience every exam is equally hard june, oct, or feb. the same in terms of hard as you asked me. The key is to go the crne guide and take a few hours to look and understand what each competency mean and know what they want you to know (critical thinking). When you read the questions in the exam read all the information carefully but the key is the question: what do they want , what are they asking you to do, say etc in each situation don't get confused because this is where many of us think is tricky - read the question carefully dissect it ok.
I tell you the main topics that will never change and expect them one way or another are: diabetes, heart failure, respiratory conditions like copd, TB, pneumonia, sars, flu, pulmonary embolism, also take a look at your health promotion concepts they are very important - Mosbys chapter 8. I know i thought I knew this topics inside but the truth is I did not know them inside out yet. Know your basic assessment skills, cpr sequence. If you have the mosbys I will recommend study chapters start with really understanding what are you assessing and why you are doing it chapter 4. Then go to chapter 5 understand health and wellness ( the determinants of health) how do they affect the individual, families and groups etc. chapter 8 med-surg conditions know the key ones, look at the main lab values to know what they test and what means when something is low or high. Always go back to the crne guide at the back of the book to see what really they want you to know.
Whatshouldido, I wish you all the best for this exam. I sincerely know what you are going through right now, this is the last step of your career and know how important is for you or anybody that is last attempt. I was in the same predicament and I pass in my last attempt. In say about 4 more weeks ask your self one question: have I answer all the questions in the competency group at the back of crne guide, do I know how to assess and intervene in different situations. Assessment always before intervention. Remember the nursing process, maslow, abcs. I am glad when you mention in one of your postings that you realize that each question requires a different strategy to answer it because it is true. In some questions you may use the abc in others you may use the maslow in others the nursing process ( always bottom line critical thinking).
Good luck to you and keep studying, give your best and chances are you will be right.
Hi Cojute2001,
Thank you for sharing your experience. I appreciate your sincere advice. I feel that I am at a place where you once were. Is there a way I can contact you privately? There are still many things going through my head. I plan on giving myself a break from writing the exam. I'm so close in passing yet so close in losing it all. My email is [email protected].

No that isn't how the pass mark is determined. The exams have to be fair across the board. If you happen to have a more difficult version, then the pass mark is usually lower.
