CRNE OCTOBER 2012

World Canada CRNE

Published

Hi everyone! I am an IEN from the Philippines batch 2009 I moved here in Brampton last November 2010.

I took the May 2012 CPNRE (first time) and still waiting for the results which will come out on June. Apparently, I just received my RN eligibility and so happy because it took me almost 14months (from the start of application) to wait for this. I thought CNO will make me take some courses. I was really estatic and relieved when I received the letter, because I am really rooting for RN.

Now this is it! Anyone else who are planning to take the October CRNE? :)

Let's use this thread to share our thoughts regarding preparation and questions. :)

Hello everyone. I just want to take this opportunity to thank my God and to motivate someone who is waiting for their results. I just received news that I passed my CRNE. This has not been an easy ride. I graduated in 2009. After graduation I went back to school to do my Masters in Public Health. I graduated with my MPH in 2011. I failed the CRNE twice. The second one I failed by 1. I've spent over $3,000 in preparation for this exam not including the time I took off from my current job. But God is good - and His time is definitely the best. This site has really helped me and I appreciate everyone's contribution. I am currently working up North as a Public Health Promoter - I already have two offers to move back down South (closer to family and friends) and work as a Public Health Nurse. Congratulations to those who passed, to those waiting for their results I pray God's divine favour and blessing. For those who were unsuccessful NEVER GIVE UP. You've come too far to give up - you are destined for greatness. I will continue to pray for all ofyou. Take care everyone.

thanks rant,

i am so happy for you...congratulations:up:

congrats to you guys that passed and good luck to those of you waiting. I did mine in june and passed, I understand your feelings.

We got ours today too. Thank God they just write "CONGRATULATIONS YOU PASSED!" on the top of the thing in red 20 pt font.

I got the mail too. Just says 'We are pleased to inform you that you successfully completed the CRNE on Oct 3, 2012 - in Ontario. It came with an enclosure - Initial Registration R1 Form. Congrats to everyone who passed and thanks to allnurses and its members for the valuable comments and support. My prayers and wishes to those who are waiting for their results.

Hah, the SRNA obviously know us enough to make sure we see it immediately. Seriously, it's huge all caps in red. Wouldn't have been able to read or process that at all right away if it were written in normal black like the rest of the letter.

Hello everyone, my name is Serge and I just received my letter that I have passed. I wanted to share my background as well as an issue that cant be overlooked. I finished my program with a 3.7 GPA, never had issues in my RPN or the BScN program. I can not stay focused for longer periods of time so during lecture classes so I would go for a swim or gym and later on would self teach myself, the only classes I would devoutly attend would have been the hands on labs (since once Im engaged I tend to be okay with my attention span) and the statistics course because I do enjoy messing with the numbers. For all my exams or papers I am physically and mentally unable to study ahead of time so I usually open my books 24 hrs within or 48 if Im really lucky. I love clinical aspect of nursing However this can be ones kryptonite since we tend to overlook the philosophical aspect which carries way more weight I believe in the CRNE examination then the american NCLEX. Other than the fact I didnt prep for anything much then patho and the clinical component my inability to focus was also to blame for my first failed attempt. This time around i was able to start studying three days before by the grace of God, and mainly focused on understanding the rationale for the CNA exam prep book answers as well as reviewed community component with emphasis on health promotion and its history. I found this to be helpful HOWEVER I go back to my issue of focus. During the case questions I struggled with tension headaches trying to hyperfocus and had to take mental breaks from the exam several time which at the end almost costed me not finishing the exam. I was literally left with an hour to do 105 single questions which I did since attentions span needed is much shorter but by the end I felt like I was run over by a tank. SO if I had failed this time around I dont think I would ever write again in such circumstances. Please consider if you are struggling with attention deficit issues and get examined. Though I passed I will get myself checked since I want to pursue further academia in business and theology. Also its important that you know I am not a fan of traditional approach to medical issues so I would certainly opt out of any pharmaceutical treatment, however a less stimulated environment (more quiet) and more time (6hrs instead of 4hrs) can be all one really needs to tackle this CRNE monster.

Best of luck to all and may Gods providence and grace fill you and your loved ones with joy!

The letter I received is in black font and same font size throughout. I had to read it twice to make sure that I passed :).. After seeing your post, I went to read it again just to make sure :shy:

Grrrrrr still waiting for Alberta Result. This waiting time is driving me insane...

I passed!!!!

Hands are shaking....so happy!

I'm in SK.

I PASSED!!!! From Brampton, ON!

I literally cried as soon as I saw the envelope in the mailbox, without even opening it.. then I cried louder after reading what's inside it. lol.

Anyways, congratulations to everyone who passed. For those who did not make it this time, don't lose hope there's another one in Feb.

I'll share with you what made me successful in the exam. So first and foremost, if you have a job and work 5 times a week, make sure to arrange your schedule 2months before the exam. I just worked 3days a week with maximum of 20hrs per week so I can balance work and focus more on my review.

I actually enrolled in a prep course, Nurses Education Inc. in Mississauga. What I like about them is they will bombard you with mock exams. We had comprehensive review for 2.5weeks then the remaining weeks were like all mock exams and rationalization. It really helped me familiarize with CRNE type questions. But of course don't depend solely on the prep course it's just an aid, and you it's your responsibility to do your readings and master pathophysiology of most commonly asked diseases in exams like DM, stroke, ARF, COPD, Alzheimers, abuse, mental health, common pediatric illness/disorder, conflict resolution etc.

On the side I also used CNA prep guides 3rd, 4th and 5th edition, Lippincotts and Mosby's prep guide 1st and 2nd edition. On the last month before the exam, I made it sure that I answer 400-600 questions every single day. I made a schedule of the things I will answer per day. For example CNA prep guide 3rd edition and 1 chapter of mosby's per day. And I also re-answered the mock exams from the prep course. The bottomline is, I answered every book/prep guide/questions that you can every think of. But of course it should be Canadian/CRNE based. Don't focus on NCLEX type questions, it's totally different from CRNE.

My review buddies and I purchased CNA readiness as well. Actually CNA prep guides and CNA readiness tests were similar to the exam. Make sure you analyze how to approach the questions. Always focus on what is being asked and avoid thinking of "what if's" and NEVER overanalyze the question. Sometimes we doubt a very simple answer for a question where in fact it is really the right answer.

To sum this all up. It's all about time management, patience, hardwork, focus and of course prayers too. Keep positive and always believe you can do it. If everyone else can do it, YOU CAN DO IT TOO! :)

It took me two years to be assessed by CNO, be eligible and pass the exam, I even have my RPN license alongside. It's been a long wait but it's all worth it. The long wait and all hardwork paid off. It feels so good to bear the fruit of your hard work. Now I'm a Canadian Registered Nurse. :)

Goodluck to all future CRNE takers! :)

I guess the SRNA is more sympathetic to the inability of nervous grad nurses to read 10 point font than the CNO. ;)
