CRNE or NCLEX???

Published

Hi Everyone,

I feel so confused.... I plan on hopefully working in the united states when I graduate. This has always been a hope of mine. However, I cannot decide if I should write the CRNE and the NCLEX or just the NCLEX. I think if I write the CRNE I will automatically be considered by the Canadian government to be a resident of Canada because I have a professional licence and this means that I will have to pay both Canadian and American taxes. If I just write the NCLEX, I might be able to get my Canadian residency waived and just pay American taxes.

Any thoughts please......

Krista

I'm graduating this May, and am writting both the CRNE and NCLEX This summer ( soo stressed about them lol ) , if all goes well and I pass the NCLEX I have job lined up in California. I would suggest to write both when you are fresh out of school that way you have all the knowledge and you can get it over with all in one summer, and if you deciced that you don't want to stay in the US you can come back to Canada and start working right away. I am going to be putting my Candian Licence on "inactive" so I will not have to pay the yearly fee's until I come back and change my status to "active", I dunno if that answers your question or not, but as far as I have been informed I will not be paying any taxes to Canada when I am in the US

Good luck

Hi there,

Way to go on just about finishing up your schooling! You must be thrilled. Me, i have a couple of years left but am already looking at my options for work when i graduate.

How do i go about writing the NCLEX? Also how have you been able to line up work in California? I still have a couple of years to go but am seriously considering living and working in the California area. Have you found that employers are pretty open to new grads or would it be more helpful to perhaps stay and gain a year of experience before applying?

Are you able to share some contact information for finding work in California?

Hope you can help,

thanks!:D

hey there, i just graduated and i am doing the same thing. i will be writing my crne in june and writing the nclex once i have the att from mn. i think its important to have the canadian exam done and have your license placed on inactive for many reasons. the most important one being if you had to come back home it would be hellish to try and get the exam done then not to mention all the time it would take to get everything in order. i have already gone through the crne study guide and found a lot of the mc questions easy however i sadly struggled with the stupid long answer (wont go into that i'm sure it would be a long rant :angryfire ). i have also purchased saunders nclex book and find it kind of cool. its an easy read and i breeze through a lot of the questions, so hopefully the test will be ok. :uhoh21:

as far as new grads, i contacted one hospital and would you believe it the next day they phoned back and tried to have a phone interview scheduled for 2 days later. so i guess they didn't have a problem that i was a new grad :)

as far as the taxes go, i'm not entirely clear on the details but my father said if i move to the states to work, i can choose to pay either american taxes or canadian taxes - apparently there's some sort of mutual agreement between our countries - but as i said, don't know any of the details myself at this poitn! good luck!
