Hi everyone, Im an Irish nurse preparing for the CRNEs for February 2012 in Toronto. Didnt see any thread for this exam in February, so thought id start one. How is everyone preparing? Im using the CRNE prep guide doing Qs and studying the competencies. Any tips/advice? Happy studying!!
May I know the total 200Qs including the 20 trial Qs, does it indicate that which one are the trial questions on the paper? I did it first time in Toronto last June, I can not remember now. Otherwise we don have to spend much time on it next time. I am not sure the results will be affected by those Qs if u answer it wrong or right. Last June I recall, there is only a few trial Qs and they indicated. So sorry to hear those being affected by the alarm in the exam hall. That is really bad for those who had been there. Congrats to those who pass their exam and don be discouraged for those did not pass. Keep moving, nurses, you are the best professional in this world.
I did complain with the proctor, he said if it's disturbing complain to CNO because they don't have control on that. But why they don't see it before that there will be no fire alarm during exam time. It was even discuss by test takers after the exam. Then we agree that will see the results first. If we can't advocate for ourselves, who else?
Hi everyone,
The passing score for the CRNE FEB 2012 is 120/180 (more like the normal adult BP ) and I believe that's the national passing mark. I also took the Feb exam and passed. It was my second time and I finally made it. Let me tell you, it was the hardest wait of my life because I told myself that this was the last time I was gonna take the CRNE even if I still had one last chance.
Just to close my chapter about this whole CRNE rollercoaster ride, I want to share few tips. When I took my first exam, I did not think. Why? Because I knew I wasn't ready. I was too tired from my last semester and placement (I was behind hours). I only studied a little over a month. It was my fault because I did not look into what "CRNE exam" was all about. I should have done a lot of practice questions. I even went to few prep courses which did not help at all. So the end result made me lost money, time, energy, confidence and hope. When I think about it, 90% of it was my fault for failing, 10% of it was other things like i should've gotten more guidance.
So the second try, I gave my 3 months on and off into studying. I am an independent learner so I studied on my own. I was lucky enough to book off from work and get support from families and friends. My weekdays and weekends were all about studying and practice questions. I spent 6 to 8 hrs a day reading and just relaxing. I made sure I slept a lot and took lots of rest. I also made sure I was well nourished and hydrated. I also listened to my body and mind if I get tired. If I wake up in the morning not feel like studying then I wouldn't do it. I gave myself plenty of rest. I read Lewis, Potter & Perry, Jarvis, Mosby Comprehensive Guide and I reviewd my nursing notes. I only read what I did not know and just quick review of the things i know. I made a daily schedule and followed it. I would say I was more organized the second time. Also be positive and pray a lot! Hope this helps.
I doubt that the alarm was scheduled to go off during the exam, more likely it was a false alarm that coincidentally went off during the exam. I am unclear about why you are advocating for yourselves and why you consider complaining to CNO the right thing to do, can you explain your reasons more fully?

I can't explain to you because you're not the CNO. If you're not distracted with the fire alarm so be it, you are not distracted. I was distracted, so I have to complain. We have different perception of the event that happen and that's individuality. But for sure majority will be distracted if there's a fire alarm during exam.
