It's taking so long because they have to assess your experience and courses thoroughly. It's also to protect to the public, they want to make sure you're competent. It's a process and unfortunately you just have to wait like everyone else.

You didn't apply for the CRNE... You applied for registration, one of the requirements being successful completion of the CRNE. CNO cannot speed up your application. All requirements must be met before you will be given eligibility to be write the exam.

RN assessment via CNO can take up to 2 years. CNO's mandate is to protect the public so essentially they function like the government so be patient with the waiting process.

Yes I agree with you guys, but cno change the rules ie if we have more than 3 year gap in experience they won't give as eligibility or we need to do some extra what cno says. If they are taking 2 years just for assessment then it might be difficult to clear CRNE exam within 3yr gap.

Do you understand how the assessment is carried out? All of those documents that were requested as part of your application first of all must be received from the source. Then a reviewer examines them to see if there are any questions about what they contain. If there are, then clarifications or additional information are sought from the source. References must be checked. All of this takes time and if the person/school/agency/registry isn't prompt in their replies, that adds more time. CNO really has no control over that. Once all the documentation has been amassed, the assessor will determine if the applicant will need to demonstrate competence. Arranging those assessments takes time because there are limited resources to provide that service. Your application fees only pay a small portion of the cost of the assessment beginning to end. And given the state of the profession at the moment, with few jobs open and many unemployed or underemployed nurses already registered in Canada, there's no pressure to make the process less involved. Unfortunately, the legal responsibilities of the colleges have to come ahead of hurt feelings, frustration or anger and the process is only going to become more complex at the same time that immigration policies are being tightened.

As for "changing the rules", CNO and all of the other colleges of nursing in Canada are required to follow legistlation - the law - in their provinces. Health Professionals Acts are continually being revised as scopes of practice expand. CNO is doing what the law indicates is required.

Hai Janfrn thanks for your reply,,,

You know that I already got my Rpn eligibility 2 yrs back ,, so they told me they don't want any additional information as they already have all my information in Rpn. Still it is over 1 yr now.i don't think they will contact again my college ,hospital etc as they already did at the time of Rpn assessment .Is it? Actually I failed for Rpn exam I time and still have 2 chance left . Is that the reason why they not giving my RN eligibility ?

So you were given eligibility to write the CPNRE and become registered as a practical nurse TWO years ago, wrote the exam once in that time and failed it. What have you been doing in the meantime? It would seem that CNO isn't the only one wasting time. I would guess that if you've already failed the practical nurse exam once you will be unlikely to pass the RN exam. My instincts tell me that CNO is not going to approve you for the CRNE until you've passed the CPNRE, and probably undergo a competence assessment. You would do best to contact them directly.

So you failed CPNRE and feel that you should be allowed to write CRNE? Wow.

CNO has determined that you are eligible to be registered as a practical nurse based on the documentation ypu provided. They have not determined you're eligible to be an RN based on that same information. Had you completed the exam you probably would have passed. But again you only were able to complete 60% of the exam in the time allotted and that suggests you would struggle even more with the CRNE. The fact that you weren't feeling well the day of the exam sounds like an excuse. Why haven't you retaken the CPRNE? Have you been working?
