I have to post in a critical thinking journal every week and I am having a very difficult time with it. The point is to show how critical thinking has improved or increased during my clinical days at the hospital. Maybe I am using critical thinking and I don't realize that I am. Can anyone please help? Thank you.

Are you finding yourself relying on memorized facts? Do you look things up that pique your interest regarding a certain patient or diagnosis?
Are you pulling in more things you learned into your clinical assessments and decisions?
What resources are you using to make your practice more expert? Why? What are you getting out of them?
Answer those thoughtfully, and that should get you started.

Think about what you are doing with your patients now versus when you first started. What do you think about now that you didn't? Are you looking at the whole patient, instead of focusing on just the admitting diagnosis? Are you basing your decisions off of what you're told, or on your own findings? Those are a few ideas to think about when considering whether or not you're thinking critically.

The moment you remember to check the AM glucose before giving insulin, or the B/P before giving lasix, listened to the lungs when someone is SOB...you just performed critical thinking.
