I have been wanting to relocate to Portland for the last 6 months.
When job searching through the hospitals' intranet, there is very little open for RNs. Specifically, no critical care jobs at either Providence hospita and only 2 at OHSU. This cannot really be the case, is it??
Is the market so saturated with nurses they have no needs for experienced critical care RNs?? Should I give up on getting to Portland, OR for now and focus else where???
This is disappointing. What is the deal?

I believe the market is a little saturated there...I work in the Seattle area and we have new grads from there as well as Cali come up to work with us b/c they can not get jobs in their locale. I work with 3 nurses now that are from the Portland area but could not find jobs so they came to my hosp. They have been there about 3 years now, but I do not think that they have tried to get jobs back at home. You could always come to WA then move down there-even closer to the OR border or more like Olympia.
good luck!

I don't know the situation at this present time, but I do know several years ago it was saturated as well. We had nurses commuting from the portland/vancouver area to Olympia- especially new grads. Good luck on your search! Don't forget to expand your search to some outlying areas (Tualatin/Gresham/Vancouver, etc.)

I don't know if you are still looking, but Salem Hospital in Salem (hour south of PDX) is currently hiring in several departments, including ICU, etc. Salem Health | Salem, Oregon
