Creighton ABSN Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi All :) - wanted to see if anyone else has been accepted into the Spring 2019 ABSN in Phoenix??? I just was accepted and wanted to connect with a few other students and/or hear from students in the past! Thanks!

Hello-

I am currently attending Creighton's accelerated program at the Phoenix campus. There was nothing published yet about this program when I applied, which is why I was not worried about the flaws associated with a new program. After attending this program for 3 months now, if I can give any advice to those considering it would be to RUN not walk from this program. The disorganization will make you wish you went to community college. This is not a personal opinion; this is the consensus of both cohort 1 and 2. If anyone has questions I will answer honestly, but I would chose another program in a heartbeat if I could.

Yikes.. those are some strong words! I'd definitelt be interested to hear what you have to say, as I am currently scheduled to start in spring. Could you email me? [email protected] (this is an old email address but I still check it, just didn't wanna post my first and last name email on the forum) lol!

mind sharing any evidence or support to back up this claim?

I will list a few major things:

- Phoenix faculty present content that Omaha professors design. Therefore, if you have a question on any of the content presented during class you will hear "email your course leader in Omaha." Since our professors don't design the course, make the PowerPoints, or write the exam, they rarely lead us in the right direction when presenting exam content.

- The program is very Omaha-specific in general. For example, we had to zoom in to a 3 hour lecture on child abuse laws in Nebraska. They never bother to get us Arizona-specific content. Also, all of your due dates and exam times are Omaha-specific. If Omaha is taking an exam at 10am, we are taking it at 8. If something is due at midnight, it is actually due at 10pm for us. Etc, etc.

- Phoenix campus has maybe half the resources of the main campus. We are not allowed charting privileges, access to blood sugar machines, and share 1 mannequin to ~15 students for every skill we've learned (NGs, catheters, tube feed, etc). Our community clinical sites consist of shadowing CNAs and health aides versus actual nurses.

- We waste A LOT of time doing busy work that should be eliminated in an accelerated program. We are also given last minute assignments with due dates the same day or day after that take anywhere from 3-6 hours.

- Our instructors (most) are rude and act like we are a burden on their time. They will lock you out of the classroom and create hostile environments for the students.

Hey @nurse0691 and @arimamari I'm in the ABSN in Phoenix and graduate in a few weeks. I live close to the hospital and am happy to answer questions you might have about the program or living in the area. I walk to the hospital and LOVE it!

At Nurse5252 I'm so sorry to hear you are having a negative experience. I speak from experience that the professors are amazing and are genuinely concerned about us as students and as people. I've had a wonderful clinical experience, with a few bumps in the classroom with getting the distance learning all situated, but I'm also really proud and thankful to say that with a few weeks til graduation I already have a job lined up and its exactly where I wanted to work and I feel VERY prepared!

Hey ChelsBe, I'm in cohort 1 in Phoenix, I actually have 2 scholarships from Creighton! And whether or not you qualify for other non-federal loans depends on your credit and your other student loan balances. I do have some federal and non-federal loans.

Thank you for all the insight into your personal experience at Creighton's program. I appreciate everyone taking the time and providing their own two cents for the rest of us, yours ( @mlm509 ) and @nurse5252 included. Thank you both. @mlm509 I would love to chat more, as I have a couple questions about you finishing up the program and your job (congrats, btw!!). I have no idea how this platform works and I can't PM you, so is there any way you could give me your email or another way of communication?

If you post your name I can connect with you on FB :)

I'd love to connect with you @mln509.

Hello everyone!

How does everyone feel about the ABSN Program at Creighton University? I'm in the process of picking between this school and WSU, so I want to make the correct decision. Did you find the school to offer a well rounded curriculum? I noticed the classes were significantly less than WSU, and it seemed to be more healthcare management based. Did they focus a lot on the various subfields like pediatrics, obstetrics, med/surgery, geriatrics etc. I'm really interested in becoming a FNP after nursing school and want to be academically prepared. Does the program in Pheonix seem to be more organized or disorganized? Then, do the nursing students work with other nurses and get an ample amount of mentorship? Im already a CNA, and would find it a waste of time if we weren't working directly with the nurses. I noticed some of the negative reviews on this forum and want to get some further perspectives. In all honest opinion, would you say it's worth attending this school or not?

Thank you!
