Crazy Student in Class!! A little long vent!

Published

So I attend A&P 2 last night with a girl from my A&P 1 class. We notice that these students all took A&P 1 together with the same instructor now teaching A&P 2. This girl refers to me and my friend as "fresh blood" -- I don't say anything, obviously everyone knows each other from A&P 1, we are the outsiders. So during class my friend and I were astounded at the disrespectfuly attitude these students had towards this professor and the comments they would make to him...needless to say this girl would ask

?sss, now my friend I didn't care, we never made a comment about her, our jive was the other girls talking during lecture and the professor yelling "Lets focus people!" At the end of class, she comes up to me and my friend and starts saying all this crazy stuff...."I obviously annoyed you w/ all my ?sss, I have a learing disability, I am really a nice person once you get to know me, I could tell you were annoyed because when I asked a ? you two would look at each other, blah, blah, blah?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! We looked at her and said, we don't care that you asked questions -- we never made a comment about you, you referred to us a fresh blood when you walked in, seriously?! I am 32 years old w/ 2 kids and I am paying a babysitter to be here -- do you think I need this? So my friend and I ignored her. Now I have this feeling that this girl might be a little crazy and will be saying more things in the future. What do I do? Just ignore her? Obviously the professor demands no respect and won't be a help!

For now, I'd ignore her and the other people in the class who are disruptive. Try to sit as far away from her as possible and if she tries to approach you, walk away. Some people get enjoyment from getting a rise out of others and if you don't allow her to get to you, she'll eventually stop. Don't give her the satisfaction.

Hope the next class goes better!

If the situation gets out of control and you truly start to fear this girl and your instructor is no help, I'd go to the head of the department or someone else to run interference.

I am truly amazed at some of the situations that I read happen in classrooms as it sounds like so much high school antics.

Best wishes....

Let me just say...looney...nutso...wacko...believe me, I know....:selfbonk:

I would be getting an appt with the Dean of the dept if meeting with the instructor does not help matters...if she is a threat...I would be going to whomever handles that in student relations. You paid to be there...so either ignore it if you wish or do something about it...it is your money and your grade.

...and these are the people that want to become NURSES!!!!!!!!!!:o WOW!!!

Thanks for your help! My friend and I have decided to ignore her and if she says something to us again (she probably will) then we will take further action. The scary thing is one of my other friends said 2 things to me 1.--"These are your future coworkers" and 2.--"Just wait to actually start nursing school, some of the students can be brutal". I cannot believe the maturity level of these people! I think that this problem student might have a flair for the drama, she was in scrubs wearing a neck brace because she was rear-ended in a car ax the other day ( I'm thinking if she is wearing a neck brace, perhaps she shouldn't be working?!) and another time we saw her in the hallway making a huge scene about having some sort of allergic reaction to a sandwich she was eating. Oh well!! Just figures this is my luck!

I would ignore her for now and see how things go. If she bothers you guys in the next couple classes, then it's time to take some action. The next time she says something, I would politely but firmly say "I am here to learn, nothing more, nothing less. End of discussion." Then walk away.

It's going to be a very long semester if the entire class is that way. If it's possible to switch, I would go to whatever lengths to do it. I had to deal with similar stuff last semester in a class that wasn't nearly as time consuming as A&P and it drove me nuts the way the instructor let them get away with it for so long....

FIrst day of class, my microbiology instructor made it loud and clear that students being disrespectful in her class by talking or fiddling with their cellphones would not be tolerated and you would be kicked out after the first offense. However she said she does realize that most of the class are parents so those who keep their phones on vibrate and choose to quietly slip out into the hall to take it would not be in trouble. It's those who text during lectures and even answer calls that she's referring to.

I love school.

These 2 particular girls just keep going round and round arguing over how much extra credit they deserve.

It was such a joke! We are lucky to even get extra credit - they have no right to keep nit-picking about every little detail. Just study the material and focus on learning, instead of worrying over how many stupid points you need for an A! I pray they are never my nurse! I really think people lose focus on why we are doing all this. My main focus is to learn the material! Not worry if I can get 50 or 100 extra credit points for attending the BodyWorlds exhibit or writing a paper.

In NS (if that's their ultimate goal), you will find there's usually NEVER any EXTRA credit given for anything....and I think it was somewhere on these boards that people have written that part of the reasoning is that in real life, as a nurse, you don't get second chances or extra credit if you boo-boo along the way....so hopefully these gals will buck up and get with the program pretty soon...and that your "newbie" instructor does the same....such a shame when you're spending good money for an education -- particularly for a class you really will need/use as you advance in your schooling!! Best wishes and congrats for standing up!!

Some of these people really start bothering me. Can't they get a clue?

I had these little vents throughout my first couple semesters at my school with my boyfriend. I had to get it off my chest and he would always say "don't ever let those people bother you, there will always be those people in your life no matter what you do and if you let them get to you then you are simply creating obstacles for yourself!" UGGGH (I would think) They were so ANNOYING. Especially this one guy in my Political Science class who thought he knew more than the professor! And would always question his credibility and be so disrespectful towards him--complete class disruption and by the way that professor is the author not only to my colleges text book but several political science books--I would give him plenty of credibility considering his research....AND I had this one girl in my A&P I class who thought she knew everything and would just ask questions to show off that she knew so much about the material when really she was wrong all the time and just wasting class time. Anyhow, my after a while my boyfriends words stuck and I realized that no matter what school you go to, no matter what job you get, there will always be "difficult ones" that you just have to ignore. So I would say you guys are on the right path. I'm with you. I also have 2 kids and no time to waste and it peeves me that there are kids that don't take this stuff seriously. Those same students will somehow also get into the nursing program, take up some spots of willing and mature students and end up dropping out later deciding they want to become a fashion designer (okay I have to stop letting my personal rants get in the way of my post!! lol) All I am saying is you are doing your best and and have come too far to let anyone get in your way. Someone else said it best: if you let them get to you, they win. Case and Point. Keep up the good work and brush that dirt off your shoulders in the end they won't succeed with their attitudes. Good luck to you and your friend!
