Crashed and burned with my CC's placement test

Published

Today I took my CC's placement test in writing, reading, math and biology. I did awesome with reading and writing, but totally blew the math and biology portion BAD. I remember NOTHING of biology or algebra (out of high school 20+yrs)....I'm going to this CC for my prerequisites only. My nursing school says I'm going to need Chemistry, the A&P's and Microbiology for their program (plus about 6 other classes).

My question is this, should I take general Biology and Pre-Algebra like my CC is suggesting? I've already got the Davis's Book of Nursing Math to help "teach" myself what I need Math wise. My list of classes that I need BEFORE nursing school and the $$$ are starting to add up.

Better to take the remedials and get good grades in all your classes than skip them, struggle to get B's and C's and not make it into your Nursing Program. I took basic biology and intro chem (basically the first half of college chem, but it was just math, no labs) prior to taking any required pre-reqs and it has helped a whole bunch.

And dont think of it as bombing the placement test, it is a very good tool that is set up to help you, there is no way to bomb it.

I agree w/student4life...it's better to take them than to not make it into the Nursing Program or even fall behind by the lack or should-a-would-a-could-a

I was in the same boat and as much as I dream of Nursing one day and wish it would happen RIGHT NOW....I keep telling myself all in due time.

Thanks, Student4life and krenrs2b. I'll just have to suck it up and remember I'm laying a solid foundation before moving on to my nursing classes.

Even though it will be an added expense and additional time, I do have to admit that I'm looking forward to firing up the ole' brain cells and learning again!
