CPS flag

Hi! I hope I'm putting this in the right place, but I've been wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. I'm trying to apply for RN by exam, and I had to consent to the Adam Walsh background check. More than 10 years ago DCF got involved with my family because my (now) ex-husband assaulted  my infant, apparently a couple times. It was completely unknown to me, as I was at work when it happened, but she appeared sick, so I was bringing her to her pediatrician and the ER several times; it was only after my ex said she fell off the bed, that the ER finally did a CT, and found subdural hematomas. Very obviously, DCF got involved, initially took custody (I got custody back at the 72 hour hearing, after my ex confessed and I filed for separation). Because it took so long for him to confess, DCF treated us both as perpetrators and supported the Care and Protection. He was ultimately  charged and convicted of his crimes, and my child is doing really great these days with no residuals (thank god!!!).

Any way... apparently my name came up on the DCF registry as being part of a protective services case, and now my application for licensure by exam is under review. With Good Moral Character, there is a list of items that the Board wants, but there is absolutely no information for individuals who show up on the Registry but have no criminal history. Does anyone know how long the review will take, or what they might want for documentation? I'm trying to pace myself studying for the NCLEX, and wonder if they will even let me? (I assume I'm listed as "neglectful" for "failing to keep the child safe", which I already feel sooo much guilt for, even though I was at work when it happened.) As additional info, I do currently work with children, and my history has never been a problem...

Hi everyone,

I have just been informed that the BORN has changed the way they are dealing with these cases. I was supposed to be heard Oct 13, and it was canceled, my case has been re-assigned to a "GMC" coordinator. I have no further info on how or when my case will be looked at. My previous caseworker at BORN stated my case was complete.. now I once again am in the dark about when or what is going on. UGH. :(

I think this is crazy. I also received a letter for new process. Who knows now how long this will take and now no one to contact since They changed our  investigator

@1FutureRN2021 Did they send u a cori also with the new process?

I do not know what they need yet. I believe they did CORI when I registered to test? I do not have a criminal record. My coordinator had my case complete, ready to go. Now they have changed the way the DCF cases are handled, so my case is off to someone who doesn't respond to my atty. My atty has no further info on my case until the GMC coordinator responds. For all I know? My case has been put at the bottom of the pile during transition? I have no clue what the changes are that have been put into place and neither does my atty. It is disheartening to learn that I came thisclose a few weeks ago to having my case heard.. to now being flashbacked to July.. not knowing a thing about when or how my case will be heard. I applied to test 5 months ago (first week of June). My case was assigned at the end of July. It has just been non-stop delays. I wish I knew what the changes are in the new process. I find it a little strange that they have a new process and nobody knows what it is. 5 months of waiting and back to not knowing a thing. I am pretty sad today.

Niyelie?

Did you get a letter in the mail? I did not. Can you share what the new process is and what exactly the letter says?

Is this what you meant when you said they requested CORI? Didn't you sign for CORI when you registered to test?

Niyelie?

What is the new process? What is new about it? Do we still go before BORN? Or are we approved by a coordinator? I have been waiting 5 months and my coordinator has not reached out to me or responded to my atty. My atty says they do not know what will be needed in my case.. bec my case was complete and ready to go.

Send me your email, I will send u what they sent me . I know it’s the new process because when I emailed my investigator that I was confused about the paperwork.

Niyelie,

You had same coordinator as me. Did you ask him how long the "new process" takes? I wonder if they did that because these cases are backing up? I don't know how to give my email privately on here? Do you?

I sent you my email. Thank you!

I was also reassigned to the GMC coordinator and was asked to provide a letter of reference from my current or most recent employer. I hope the process can move faster with the new way they are handling the cases.

Hi Everyone,

I rec'd notice today that my case will be heard this month (next week),  and I have my instructions on how to sign in to the meeting either via Zoom or by phone. I can only assume this is because my case was considered "complete" during the transition to the "new process."

I went before BORN today. I waited over 4 hours in the zoom "waiting room." It took less than 2 minutes and they all voted aye. They asked me no questions, said good luck and that was it!

A few girls from the previous graduating class were flagged by CPS and they still can’t take their NCLEX. Does it matter if the CPS case was deemed unsubstantiated? I’m set to graduate in 4 weeks, but now I feel like it’s gonna be months before I can register and take the NCLEX. An old neighbor falsely called CPS on us 6 years ago. It was deemed unsubstantiated but from what I’m hearing I’ll still probably get flagged.
