Hi! I hope I'm putting this in the right place, but I've been wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. I'm trying to apply for RN by exam, and I had to consent to the Adam Walsh background check. More than 10 years ago DCF got involved with my family because my (now) ex-husband assaulted  my infant, apparently a couple times. It was completely unknown to me, as I was at work when it happened, but she appeared sick, so I was bringing her to her pediatrician and the ER several times; it was only after my ex said she fell off the bed, that the ER finally did a CT, and found subdural hematomas. Very obviously, DCF got involved, initially took custody (I got custody back at the 72 hour hearing, after my ex confessed and I filed for separation). Because it took so long for him to confess, DCF treated us both as perpetrators and supported the Care and Protection. He was ultimately  charged and convicted of his crimes, and my child is doing really great these days with no residuals (thank god!!!).

Any way... apparently my name came up on the DCF registry as being part of a protective services case, and now my application for licensure by exam is under review. With Good Moral Character, there is a list of items that the Board wants, but there is absolutely no information for individuals who show up on the Registry but have no criminal history. Does anyone know how long the review will take, or what they might want for documentation? I'm trying to pace myself studying for the NCLEX, and wonder if they will even let me? (I assume I'm listed as "neglectful" for "failing to keep the child safe", which I already feel sooo much guilt for, even though I was at work when it happened.) As additional info, I do currently work with children, and my history has never been a problem...

Can you tell me when you applied again? Also, was it Zoom? Congratulations and good luck!

Thank you! ? I applied back on 25 May. And yes, I opted to do the meeting via Zoom, but there is a call-in option as well

Thank you so much for keeping us updated. Good luck nurse. You got this♥️

That's awesome!! Congrats!! I was contacted Wednesday the 8th that I was assigned an investigator.. How long did it take your investigator to contact you and how long after the info they request from you was received did you go in front of the board? I am trying to get a timeline to prepare for everything...

They’ve changed my investigator and still no date for hearing. Anyone else make progress?

No date for hearing also. I’m still waiting. My investigator told me on the phone , my hearing might be heard in December??☹️. But I still don’t have a date . I feel this taking so long ?

Hi,

I understand! My date was scheduled for next week and was canceled due to BORN being so backed up. I feel like I am being punished for being abused. Broke. No job. Just waiting and waiting.. my study resources are now expired... hang in there!

I wish that there was a more private way for us to talk.

Hi everyone,

I was assigned an investigator on September 9th after waiting months to hear from someone. My letter said I had 30 days to get some documents to them which I sent in within 1 week. I contacted my investigator on October 4th and was told they don't know when I will meet with the BON... I have been training with another nurse for weeks and my employer is waiting for me to take the NCLEX... I was hoping to meet with them thus month but that isn't going to happen. Maybe next month or December ?

Hi,

I am still waiting. BORN is overwhelmed with cases. I don't have a date either as my Oct date was cancelled. I spent a day crying over it being cancelled. No job.. no income. Just waiting.

I was assigned a investigator and sent everything he asked . Then I received another letter this week stating I’m being reassigned. And they send me criminal background check. I know 2 other girls in my classroom that are going threw same thing but wasn’t reassigned they kept there investigators and not being asked for a cori. I wrote the investigator that was supposed to be mine and says I’m being reassigned to the new process there doing for dcf . Did everyone else get cori? I guess I’m worried because I had a case years ago but I got my record sealed . I really feel this ain’t goi t to happen for me and went to school for 2 years for nothing

Hi Nyelie,
I did not have to do a CORI that I know of. I do not have a criminal record. I had to provide reference letters. I had to write a letter as to what happened. I do not think you should give up. People make mistakes in life.

Niyele, I had to do a CORI with my investigation as well. It came up negative. I do not know what the process would be if it had come back as positive though. I also had to provide letters of support/references for my case. Do not give up! I was terrified & thought I had gone to nursing school for nothing but everything turned out just fine ? Good luck!
