There is a difference between BLS and CPR-HCP. The first one is the same course anybody off the street would take. The second is aimed at health care providers. So it includes things like bag-valve-mask ventilation and advanced airways. It's the course employers want when they say BCLS.
No, there is no need to take first aid.
Just filled out a job app that had a both a box for BCLS and a box for CPR. Thought about it for awhile and could not remember the difference. Did not know what to put. My card says BLS for HCP, nothing about B CLS or even CPR. I was thinking BCLS must be a mini-ACLS, which I have never heard of.
I think basic cardiac life support (BCLS) and basic life support (BLS) and cardiopulmonary resususcitation (CPR) are all interchangeable terms and the term used, depends on organization teaching the course. My card says BLS for HCP ©.
This is what I think, and also think the difference in terms may have a historical component to it.

My BLS is expired and planning to go for certification. Is there any difference between BLS and CPR-HCP? I am just wondering because I have seen hospitals here ask for BCLS. And it is necessary to do standard or emergency first aid with the these certifications? I will appreciate your response.
