Hi all,
I've been a nurse for over 17years. My background has been in Med/Surg, Public Health, & Outpatient wound care was my last role. I just re-certified my CWOCN. My CPR lapsed during the Spring so I'm searching for the best ways to do that solo. I took a break from nursing to be with my kiddos while my husband started traveling internationally for work. I just couldn't keep up with the demands of even 1 PRN shift a week. It just wasn't worth the headache and expense of childcare for 3. Thankfully, my husband is now WFH until 2021 (or later) and my kids are remote learners. I volunteer at a local hospice, have helped out a few times with MRC for covid testing, but mainly I'm just trying to keep my kids engaged with distance learning. I know we have no way of knowing how long this pandemic will go on but I'm trying to plan for a transition back to work PD. I'm thinking about going back to the bedside but I don't really think I'm ready to do case management/WFH type nursing. I'm curious to know what your experiences have been since covid? Are you furloughed often? Do they beg you to take on as many shifts as possible? What type of nursing jobs are there in NJ that are really working out for moms with young kids? P.S. I loved working nights. Thanks in advance.

I re-upped my PALS, and then my BLS/ACLS through an agency in Jersey City. They cap their classes at a super-low level (I think my PALS class had 4 students, and my BLS/ACLS class had only 3 including myself). Personally, I think doing online-only CPR renewal is a bad plan...but then again, many agencies skimp on requirements/feedback, so I'm not sure that I got all the bang for my buck that I should've.
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I completely agree on the in-person training. I found someone through the AHA. I just have to do the lecture online and he will do the hands-on part on my lawn. Strange times.
