I have been reading everyone's experience on the CPNE and I am curious if you get a second try on your PCS? I have read numerous times that if you fail a lab station, you get a second chance. Are you allowed a second chance when caring for your patients?
Thanks, Jamie

You get one second chance for the adult and one second chance for the peds patient, giving you five chances in all to get three PCSs right.
Thank you for your speedy response - you always respond right away, I love it
That seems like alot of tries, but obviously not as easy as it sounds huh?
You would be surprised how many people walk in to greet their first patient and fail to identify the patient, thus failing their first PCS!
Do they tell you to stop right away or do you finish your cares and then find out at the end?
It depends. They do not let you go too far after you have failed, depending on the situation. If you haven't identified the patient at the beginning of the PCS, they would usually call you out of the room immediately because you can not legally touch or do anything for a patient that you have not identified. In other cases, you may be allowed to finish or nearly finish, because it might be feasible for you to include a step you had left out or to correct yourself.

Yep, I made that bonehead error of not identifying my patient properly on what should have been my last PCS -- I lost my focus and blew it, totally my fault. They ask you to step out immediately. The only way you'd get to the very end of the PCS and fail is if you make an error in your documentation (like leaving out a critical element in your documentation).
