I'm not sure where to post this, so admins, feel free to move this if necessary.
Regarding Coursera, and other sites (Udacity, edx, etc.) have you found that taking these courses and obtaining the certificates have made you more marketable in the nursing field? I really enjoy being knowledgeable about different things, so I started out using these sites for my own gain. However, I have seen the certificates obtained after these courses being placed on resumes and was curious if it is worth paying for the certificate. In my opinion, it certainly shows your initiative to educate yourself and seek supplemental knowledge, but I was wondering if it is actually a benefit to receive the certificate after completing the courses, specifically in the nursing field.

I don't think it is. Coursera is working towards that goal of being recognized, but they are not yet. I have taken several courses on there for my own personal knowledge. My favorite being neurobiology from the University of Chicago. Most people have never even heard of Coursera, but it did help me with my nursing classes, especially med/surg.

I took a class on the history of vaccines a month ago with Dr. Paul Offit and it was awesome. I'd never heard of Coursera before and now I'm interested in taking more classes.
Yes, you should! Whether or not the certificate has value, I will continue to take the courses for my own benefit. It's free (unless you want a certificate), and I recommend edX too - they sometimes have some pretty interesting courses as well.

Fun to use for self-learning but not marketable to date.
