Course Syllabuses --> new student

Published

Please forgive the dumb question but its been awhile for me.

I am registered, I have my class list, I have to go buy books, I have to pay my reg. fees.

Are course syllabuses usually given in class on the first day? Do I take my books to class?

(Sheepish grin)

I take my book to class. The syllabus is either given in class or posted online in campus connect.

good luck

From my experience the course syllabus were always given in class sometimes on the first day, and sometimes not on the first day it depended on the instructor. Some instructors would just go over it without handing it out and whoever couldn't endure the demand of the instructor would drop.

If the class is a couple of hours long, yes, I would always bring my books. At my college, the chances of being let out early on the first day of classes are slim.

I'd be careful about bringing the books the first day unless you know for sure it's worth buying. A lot of teachers are fine with older editions or other cheaper options to the textbook in the book store. Sometimes you can save literally hundreds of dollars.

I have always gotten the syllabus on the first day of class. I always buy the books that the instructor wants. I go to the bookstore and they have all the books listed that the professor will be using and I get the ISBN # and go and look on ebay and amazon. If I cant find a good deal I try and get the used books at the bookstore.

Very good point. I second this comment. Older editions can save you hundreds and often are the best bargain. Just be careful to ensure that there will be no assigned homework from the textbook before you invest in an old edition. I've been literally doing this for years and I've never had a problem.

From my experience, we usually jump right in with the books the first day of class. Syllabi are usually distributed via the course online sight for our college
