The cost of "training" to become an LPN is totally dependent upon which practical/vocational nursing program you choose to attend. Community college LPN programs are generally cheaper than trade school LPN programs, especially if you can attend a community college with in-state resident tuition rates. Adult education school LPN programs tend to be more affordable than LPN programs offered at private career colleges, and so on.
Some people have paid a few hundred or a couple of thousand to attend LPN programs at community colleges and adult education schools. Others have paid over $30,000 to attend expensive LPN programs at for-profit career colleges.
Some people have managed to become LPNs for free by attending a high school based program during their senior year of public high school.
I think TheCommuter said it all!
You will just have to look around your area. I am in VA and they do not offer the LPN course at the local college, and there is a two year waiting list for the RN program after you apply. SO, I decided on a technical college so I can be done faster since we will be moving out of the state in a couple years. My school is really expensive, but I applied for grants and loans. I start May 4th!!!!
I live in Indiana, I am taking a 12 month, vo-tech class, and cost was $7,300.
This included tutition, books, 2 uniforms. Pell grant paid for 1/2 of it. and The WIA grant (State grant from the employment office) paid for almost the other half. But, I did take out a 3500. loan, because I didn't know if I would get the WIA grant until half way thru my program.
