Cost of living

Published

Hi everyone. I am planning on moving to the Seattle area in a few months. I hear cost of living is higher there than Houston, TX where I currently am. I am paying $1,300 for a 1 bedroom apartment. What is the average 1 bedroom apartment going for in Seattle? Any suggestions on areas to avoid?

I prefer a 1 bedroom, and my goal would be in the city. Where in the city, I don't really know since I don't live there and havent been there for a couple years. Someplace safe.

Recommend you look at Craigslist. Put in the city or neighborhood you are looking at. Ive had places 1 bdrm downtown in Belltown $1800 with a magnificent view and a few blocks from Pike Place Market and so close to everything!! Also have had a 2 and 3 bdrm places in the south (Tukwila and Renton) for $1150-1550. Just depends where you want to live and work.

IMO, I would stay out of Rainier Valley and White Center. Other then that I think you could google crime rates in Seattle neighborhoods.

All of this helps me out. Now I am just waiting for WA to grant me my license and then start the application process. I'm hoping they Don't automatically reject me since I live out of state.....

Stay out of the Central District too. I'm sure you will have no problem getting a license. I came from out of state too! :)

I sent the application early last week. I hope it doesn't take too long. Although I am not sure how early I should start applying to jobs out there. I'm hoping to move in August or September.

That should be good. It took mine a full 4 weeks, but that was about 5 years ago. They just started accepting renewals online last year!

Cool, another GCU grad in the neighborhood.
