I am currently working at a hospital. To say the least I'm tired of it, im done and dont want to go back. I am thinking of resigning in the next two days. They give you back to back admits and i think it is dangerous and you do not give the proper care. You just can't! I received a verbal "ok we will hire you" from a corrections facility. I have a background check to go to on thursday. I have never ever been arrested, my credit is phenomenal and I have one or two speeding tickets. Im getting nervous now, i am thinking a lot about the what if this, what if that. What are your thoughts?

Traffic violations normally aren't a issue unless they involve an accident with serious bodily harm. Speeding tickets shouldn't be a problem, espeically since there aren't a lot of them.

Don't overthink this. They have already given you a tentative job offer.

BTW - I went into corrections from hospital work. That was 12 years ago, and I have never looked back.

Hey thank you for the reply and putting my mind at ease. I'm just stuck on the what if this what if that..... I just don't think I can do another day working where I work. I have background check soon and like I said I've never done anything worse than a couple speeding tickets . :)

I don't recommend you quit with only two days' notice. That will get you permanently blacklisted at that hospital, and indeed throughout their entire health system, and you simply never know if you might need them again someday. At least give them two weeks (four's better), then see if your co-workers can pick up a couple of your shifts before your official last day.

Years ago I had a mental breakdown and left my Med/Surg job having given my 'official' two weeks notice, but my manager saw to it that I never had to work another shift there because she knew I couldn't handle even one more day. Unfortunately, however, I can no longer work anywhere in the organization because I have a do-not-rehire status. Trust me---if you're not on the verge of ending up in a psych ward, do everything you can to give the proper notice, because it WILL haunt you down the line.

In the meantime, good luck to you in your job search. I admire the courage of corrections nurses; I can't even imagine working where the staff gets locked in with the inmates, nor would I ever want to work with that population if I could avoid it. Then again, a lot of people feel the same way about the elderly, which is my favorite area.:) To each his/her own!

Give a few weeks notice. It will help in the long run.

I echo what others have said about giving proper notice. If you leave without it, not only can you not return there if you should need to in the future, you also cannot use that employer as a reference. Even if they aren't a great employer, they gave you a job when you needed one.
