Anyone here done it? Can you tell me a little about it?
Is there a difference between federal and local correctional facilities as far as the nursing goes?
Anything I should know before I get involved?
I love this avatar. Its funny to see, if you can read the caption, it says "Dream big".
So the question is, which one is "dreaming big" as those two gaze at each other. I think it is Hulk, he will never be as intelligent or in control as Yoda. Lots of people think it is Yoda who wishes he were the Hulk.
I'll be changeing my avatar about once a month. Next one might be Vadar. I already have a Vadar bobble head in my truck though.

:lol2:
:lol2: I did not see that. Now it all makes sense!
I have to agree with you. Yoda is the awesomest ever and he knows it, why would he want to like the Hulk?
I now envy your Darth Vader bobble head, I only have a mini cup.
Just keep in mind that if you choose to work at your local jail, you will have to interact with quite a few of these guys out in the local community.
Your plumber may get locked up and then announce to everybody that "hey- I know where she lives- I have been to her house...!" He might not be the bad guy, but someone else may love to find out where you live and get the info from him...
At least in the state/federal prisons that risk is minimized due to demographics and sentences.
I use Vadar to settle arguements with my wife.
If we disagree on what resteraunt to go to, I say "OK, let Vadar decide". Then I ask him "Do you want to go to my place" and his head bobbles up and down in a yes motion. I say "Do you like Lindsay's place" and I steer so his head now goes back and forth, in a "No" motion.
Then I finish with "Are you going to use the force on Lindsay if she doesnt cooperate?" and he bobbles a "yes" answer.
She wants to take Vadar out of the truch, but he is too well glued onto the dashboard.

Yeah, the guy who told me about corrections nursing lived like an hour from where he worked when he did it. Plus, he was a traveler lol, which helps.

Yeah, the situation you described about the inmate jumping in to help him.. I've seen that. When I was a guard, another guard got himself into a terrible situation. While I was in the control room (locked in there) calling for help.. he was getting beaten to a bloody pulp. Two other inmates actually came to his aid and pulled the inmate off of him. It is rare, but it does happen. This incident is why I finally quit and told myself that I was going to get an education so I wouldn't have to work in such a place ever again.
Most of the time though, inmates will stay away from situations like that as to not get themselves into trouble. Which I can totally understand. Or maybe I can't because I've never been locked up.
But, I've watched enough Discovery Channel Lock Down to know that inmates gotta respect the boundaries of other inmates... etc... It is a wild place, and I can say that from my very own experience.
Maybe the place I worked was in the extreme and you may not encounter that. You will probably do fine. But, like I said earlier, it is a totally different kind of nursing. Maybe it is your thing, but I know that it is not mine. That's not the kind of nursing that I would enjoy. It is just,,, different.
edit: Let me just add one more thing. Your friend is right, as long as you respect them and treat them ALL THE SAME, do not treat one any better than the other, and as long as you are *consistent* they will respect you back, as a person. Consistent is a key word here. They have to be able to know what to expect from you, and they must know that they can't get over on you.. on ANY day. Not one day then the next they can... it has to be everyday, every hour and every situation,,, consistently the same.
