little bit confusing. i'm looking for verification about pyridostigmine (mestinon) r/t meals: to take it before or with the food?when is the best time to take this med?
i practiced from saunders cd 2nd edition on pharm. section.
in question #55 the right answer is option 4: with food
however, the question #2 the right answer is: before meals
both questions here are related to difficulty chewing.
anyone give me the simple-complete rationale for verification please?
hi:
saunders 4th edition, pg 1042
it states to administer mestinon 30 mins before meals with milk and crackers to reduce gi upset.
i am not sure if this answers your question...but hope it helps.

p.s. feel free to correct me if i am wrong.
We learned that all MG meds should be given about 30 min before meals, since pts often have difficulty with the muscles involved in chewing/swallowing. Per my med-surg book, meds should be scheduled so they peak at meal time (Lewis, Heitkemper, Dirksen, O'Brien, and Bucher; 2007, p. 1556). There are a couple of errors in the Saunders products, you probably found one of them.
