when you use corpaks, how often do you change it? also, how often do you check for 'residual' or 'gastric aspirates'?

according to one of my colleagues, it is not necessary to check for the corpak placement prior to giving the bolus, intermittent or continuous feeds. on the other hand, there is also another colleague of mine who said that i am supposed to check it everytime before i start with any type of feedings. your opinion matters a lot to me. thanks!

We change ours every 7 days. We used to have a kind that could stay in for 30 days, but our infection rates soared so we switched back to the Q7 day ones. We check placement before hanging any feed (no one wants to put formula or breast milk into a lung). We also check for a residual at the same time. Usually that means every 3 hours or so.

Do you mean the corpaks that are weighted and placed lower than a regular feeding tube? We use those, but they are placed under fluro and then secured. We don't check placement on those. Those stay in for 30 days, or until Junior pulls it out. Our regular Vygons stay in for 30 days and we check placement everytime.

We change ours once a month, our infection problems are more central line in nature. We check residuals before every feed unless otherwise indicated. Also pH testing every one.
