Hello new grads! I thought I'd make this for those who applied to Cook's RN Residency program for October 2017! Applications were due on June 22nd, and today they have started notifying us for interviews!

Timeline posted on their website:

interview notification: week of 6/26

interview week: 7/10-7/14

selection and notification: 7/24

start date: 10/2

they called me yesterday morning around 0930 Arizona time

From what I've heard, they ask 10-15 behavioral questions and give us a case study where the patient gets progressively worse, which makes me the most nervous. I can't imagine that they'd expect too much since we're brand new nurses, but any pointers on how to prepare would be great!

Hi! I was called for a critical care interview. They called me on 6/26 around 11am! I have a question though, does anyone know the starting new grad salary for Cook Children's residency? I had an interview this week for another residency and got an offer this morning. I am so torn since I haven't had the chance to interview for Cook yet! I wish their interviews were sooner so that I would be able to decide.

Starting salary is 28 an hour! and it's full time benefits!

Good luck everyone. Not a new grad but I worked 1.5 years on a med surg at Dallas Children's and it was a very great learning experience and peds was very fun. Enjoy it those of you that get it!

Everything about the hospital is incredible, and everyone you meet before/during the interview is super sweet and welcoming. Just be yourself and take from your clinical experience. This is a different "getting-to-know-you" interview in the sense that there is less small talk and no typical new grad questions (i.e. tell me about yourself, your strengths/weaknesses, why you want to work for us, etc.). They really just want to see how you handle yourself in the work setting and that you know the basics of what to look for in your patient and/or present situation. Behavioral questions have no "right" or "wrong" answers, so take your time thinking of which experiences correspond to their questions and answer honestly. I'm telling you - they are incredibly nice and patient. Just breathe and be confident! You'll do great!

Had my interview (online-out of state) today for the Critical Care track!! It was pretty crazy; honestly one of the hardest interviews I've had so far! It was a panel of 3 women, who were extremely nice- so don't stress about that. They asked some basic behavioral questions, which you should have clinical stories in your mind for. The second part is the scenario/case study of the patient getting progressively worse. I don't know how many of these case studies they have, or if its just one? Regardless, its basically asking for your clinical reasoning/ critical thinking skills. How you assess and intervene, specially when things go down hill.

Good luck for anyone who is still interviewing! We hear back (regardless of yes or no) on the 24th!

I'm not sure if the reason is because I'm already. Cook Children's employee but... I recieved my phone call today with my acceptance into the Critical Care track!
