I say this because I spoke to a nurse recruiter this week about a local nursing residency program. I am an Excelsior student and plan to be finished and boarded no later than November but optimally by late September/early October. She told me two things: The first is that I needed to be hired into their PRN pool now to have my foot in the door if I wanted a good chance at getting accepted into the residency program. The second thing she told me is that even if I did finish and get licensed by October, I would not be allowed to work as an RN in the facility until the residency program began in January, but that I COULD stay on staff in my PRN pool position until that time.

Thanks. Im really thinking it shouldn't be a problem. My managers knew I was gonna take my boards any minute now and they also know I am anticipating going for the next round of hiring. They never said this would be a problem. Im thinking they would have said something. I didn't even think something like this could be a problem until someone told me that DC doesn't allow this. I too am wondering if it's more of a facility specific matter.
