Considering moving to TN (chatt area) as an LPN

Published

I am a new grad LPN down here in Florida and I am thinking about relocating somewhere else and i am doing some research. Would you recommend or discourage me from moving? Are there a lot of LPN jobs in the area?Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

I guess it depends on where you want to work. Most hospitals here do not hire LPNs. Nursing homes and doctor's office/clinics are pretty much the only option. There were 35 in my graduating LPN class in December, of those that have taken the NCLEX, only a few are working as LPNs.

Being experienced you would likely have a better chance of being hired over new grads though.

I would definiteley not discourage you from moving to Chattanooga. I too am a new grad LPN. I graduated in December, and right after graduating my husband and I moved to Chatt from Mississippi. I got my nursing license in February, and I am already working PRN for a LTC facility here and full time at a rehab facility. I have had no problem with finding work, in fact I have gotten several calls for employment. Hope this helps and good luck:yeah:

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Moving to Chattanooga area.. north up I-75 less crime and prettiest area.. Not alot of work, hospitals post RN jobs but have hiring freezes at some,.. so they just post and never hire.. 2 yrs ago receession did not really hit here..last 6 mos it has some.. Housing is much cheaper than FL used to be, rents are climbing but buying is still a good deal.. Houses not gaining or losing values for the most part. There are few jobs for LPN, no hospital that I know of, LTC, Rehab, alittle DR office. Salaries are not very good, 2yrs ago made more than being offered now and am RN with 23+yrs.

My suggestion is to come look and interview and then if you get job move....( I am NOT discouraging you just being realistic) and job search site such as indeed.com could give you local jobs posted . Downtown Chattanooga has great tourism stuff, lots to do, great restaurants but rising crime. I would be very careful at night. Erlanger is the teaching hospital hooked to Univ of TN.. hard to get in.. but I hear pay is better.. Memorial good place to work, salaries are lower. Up I-75 near Cleveland, very nice area.. local hospital is very poor choice. But doable drive to Memorial/Erlanger.

Knoxville has more jobs, more facilities and higher pay. Nice college town.

If I can help with specific questions, feel free to PM me.
