Considering moving to the south east - advise

Nurses General Nursing

Hi, I'm a CNS from the northern midwest region and looking to relocate in NC, SC, Georgia or possibly northern Fl states. I'm a CNS for critical care with lots of experience.

Any folks live/work in these states have advice for me and some names of exceptional institutions?

Thanks

These are very broad questions. Do you have any ideas about what YOU are looking for? Seashore? Mountains? Farming? Urban? Appalachia? Continuing ed opportunities? Pines or palms or oaks or cedars or birch?

I've lived in five different "southeastern" states and believe me, they are all very different in every way. But, honestly, people are people wherever you go. Nice folks, mean folks, smart folks, dull folks, poor folks, rich folks.

If you are primarily interested in the most highly thought of institutions, there are many websites that rate hospitals that would probably work fine for you, and would be more objective, too.

If you are interested in moving to a different locale to experience a new culture, climate, and opportunities to serve your patients (which I would expect that you are, or you'd stay in the northern midwest), then come on. Enjoy the new experiences. There will be plenty.

I lived in the south for awhile. Loved it. Its a different way of life. Just beware that salaries in the south are much lower compared some other areas of the country.

I lived in Ga. for 15 years and if I could back, I would. You can live in a semi-rural area but go to Atlanta for your fun, big-city adventures. And Atlanta is hot-bed for well paying nursing jobs. I left south Florida 3 years ago. Would NEVER go back. Went thru 4 hurricaines in the summer of 2004. When we moved our house insurance was $10,000 a year! The cost of living just continues to esculate there. The snowbirds and the illegal immigration problem are driving people north. If it was between north Fl. and Georgia, I'd pick GA! Take a trip and visit. I've lived all over the US and hold GA close to my heart. Good luck!:D

I would consider Greenville, SC.. What a great place to live. The city is growing daily. The downtown area is hip and cool. And there are two great hospitals in the area. St. Francis is a good one. The large teaching hospital is okay as well. Greenville Memorial Hospital... Greenville really is a beautiful place to live if your interested.
