Sorry to hear this. but, how would this affect your GN job?

As bad as the nursing shortage is right now, most places would be happy to hire you. Remember, you are a "GN"!! You are a trained, educated graduate nurse only lacking your NCLEX cert. You're under someone's supervision. Take advantage of the time and get your floor orientation going, show your boss you're dedicated and willing to see this through. The Pearson Vue website, I believe, has a link for employers to help you prep for your next NCLEX.

Consider the fact this is a TEMPORARY setback and you'll pull through fine. Five years from now, as an RN, you'll look back at this time and not give it a second thought.

You'll make it!!!

I'm am pretty sure that you cannot work as a GN once you have failed the NCLEX. Check with the facility you were hired at. I know that you feel rotten now but let me tell you that the NCLEX was so weird I don't think anyone should blame themselves for not passing the first time. If you made it through nursing school you probablly have what it take to be a nurse. I am sure you will pass next time.

I failed my exam, found out today, I feel mizerable!!!

I have a job lined up as a graduate nurse, and dont know what my options are.
does anyone know the laws for the State of CT, can I take the LPN right away, until its time to take RN exam again?:uhoh21: :angryfire

When thius happens at our hospital we keep the GN on as a nurses aide and have her re-take the test in 45 days. As a manager I try to work with the GN and have her spend most of her time shadowing an RN for help with assessmnets, critical thinking skills etc. If the GN does not make it the second time they continue to work as a PCA until they do. Good luck. We also encourage the GN to take another Kaplans etc. not so much on content but how to take the test- especially if the GN did great clinically while they were working in the new GN role.

I'm sorry you failed your exam. You will definitely pass next time. I'm taking my exam Thursday for the first time...nervous about it. What did you use to study???? Did you take Kaplan???

In the state of CT, you do lose your GN status once you take the NCLEX. I had to find out this info for my friend. I don't think it's fair but that's what it says.

i know what its like to fail and lose your position... i have been there..and am still working on passing the nclex after 3 failed attempts.... its like a never ending nightmare... but you should be able to stay on as an aide... i wasnt so fortunate though because my offer was for a nicu which didnt have aides ... so i was jobless..... but goodluck and keep your head up... we will pass!!
