Connecticut Community Colleges - Applying for 2014

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

I've read through last year's version of this thread 100 times, so I thought I'd start a new one. I'm planning to apply for NCC's 2014 program. I'm taking A&P I right now (A- midterm grade, hoping to make that an A!) and will need to do the software applications class online in the winter session, so I won't be able to submit my app until final grades are out for that. Hopefully I won't be cutting it too close to the Feb 1st deadline! I'm taking my TEAS on November 18th.

Who else is applying? Where are you in the application process? Post your TEAS scores and GPA stats if you know them! My nursing GPA will be almost a 3.8 with an A- in A&P and an A in CSA105, but I dropped out two semesters in a row in 2006 (one semester medically excused but still on my transcript, the other no excuse, just screwed up being 19 and not very serious about my education at that time) I hope those hiccups won't count against me too much, luckily none of the classes I was taking at the time applied to the nursing program.

I haven't gotten my books or my uniform yet, clearly I am slacking!

I'm thinking about starting a Facebook group for the NCC program but I don't see any for previous classes and I don't want to get in trouble if it's not something we're supposed to do.

O don't think there is any problem doing it. As long as we don't share content information, I believe, and make it private.

Or you can aways create another one here.

NCC Nursing Fall 2014 Students only

I think I have seen others do a Facebook page, I don't see why we couldn't have one.

I got my uniform early, because I can't sew!! So I needed to have someone sew the patches on for me, and wanted to make sure I got them back in time. I also just ordered another set online , all heart scrubs, and they are on backorder! ? they scrub shops around here laughed at the styles when I tried to but them locally saying they never ever have toes retro pants in stock! So I had no choice but to order online. I would have to assume the uniform shop in Norwalk would have them on hand, as well as the book store, but the book store had limited sizes when I looked quick.

I knooowwww!! I was mad that the Norwalk store didn't have it... NCC should have "an agreement" with them, as well as more options on styles.

I understand it's just an uniform, but come on... thick girls like me have a hard time fitting in scrubs without looking like we are in a bag of potatoes..

They sent out another email about the book list... I actually got this one!! Problem fixed!??

That's nice!!!

When I looked up I couldn't find the books anywhere else.

I'll do a research and I'll post here what I find.

You might also consider looking at older editions. We're using the Lewis Med-Surg books (2 volumes) in my program, too. I bought what was on the list, but a classmate bought the previous edition of Lewis for a fraction of what I paid, and she says it's the same material. I have now done the same for other books in subsequent semesters, and it's worked out well. Sometimes it means looking at a classmate's text to find equivalent pagination if the reading isn't the whole chapter, but it hasn't hurt my learning, and it's saved a ton of money. There's usually not much difference if you go back just one edition.

On the email they said not to buy previous edition...

I did a lil research and I'll end up getting the bundle at the bookstore since the difference won't be much if i buy elsewhere after adding Shipping, plus the convenience of having everything in the same place.

I haven't bought a book for the past 2 years, I always rent them, but apparently we will be using those books for the whole year, so renting is not an option.

I bought the bundle, I just figured it was easier and for this semester want to make sure I have what is recommended. I have always bought. Used or rented as well, I did by the math for meds online, not from the bookstore.
