Confused on what LPN school to attend. Help.

Published

So I am utterly confused on what school to attend, who is accredited, who isnt, what school is good, and so on.

I wanted to go to Lincoln Tech but I heard so many negative things about this school, then I decided to go to Dover but again I heard some scary things that have really made me unsure about where to go. I know there are so many schools to choose from but I need to know legitimate schools in Passaic/Bergen county area, a school that will be worth me going to. Does anyone have any advice or incite on any schools? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Sara,

Hope school is going well for you! I received my testing letter for this Thursday, I am so nervous. Was it a group of people testing the same day or just you?

Jenn

Hey Jenn,

No need to be nervous! You'll do great, just brush up on your math :)

The test is in a small group setting- it's in a classroom with about 25 people. Bring a couple of pencils and pens, they'll provide the scrap paper... no calculators allowed lol

Thanks, I really love it so far, and I'm doing pretty well, averaging 93 in both classes (could do better, need to study more!) We're doing clinical simulation (bed baths tomorrow), and starting clinicals the 1st week of November. That's where I think I'm going to be a wreck!

Let me know how it goes! Good Luck!

Ok so testing is complete. I will be biting my nails until I receive my pass/fail letter. Question Sara. Did they give you a breakdown of the scoring? Our admission test had six parts. The first part of the Math was cake but the 2nd completely through me for a loop. The test had nothing on it that was mentioned to study for from the application packet and you were only given 20 minutes. I know I aced the other sections but this 2nd part of the math is making me very nervous.

Hey Jenny, sorry it took me a while to get back to you, we're on vital signs and care plans and I've been studying like crazy

What day did you go in? I saw the signs on the door to the school about the test and my classmates and I were laughing about how that was us 6 months ago lol.

When you get the letter, it doesn't give any indication of how you scored, it's either "Congrats you're accepted!" or "Sorry, at this time we are not able to accept you". Don't panic too much, I didn't think I did well on the math either. What was on the 2nd part? I have a case of CRS lol.

I think it does take a little while to get the letter. It was a rough wait, and you can't call the school for results as they are sent out to a 3rd party. Just have hope and believe that you did well. How many other people did you test with? Are you going for day or evening?

Hi Sara,

Thanks for getting back to me, and I am so glad to hear that you are loving school! I hope that I am in the same place in the next couple of months. I went in last Thursday, and there were only about 10 other people in the classroom. I am hoping to be accepted for the day program. The first part of the math I felt was a piece of cake. It was actually on a piece of paper that we were required to hand write the answers instead of using the scantron. That test was very easy and I would be suprised if I got even one wrong. The reading, vocab and spelling were also very easy, it was the second part of the math that got me. It was timed and we only received twenty minutes or so to complete it and I only got to question 33 out 40 which scares me. It had integers on it which I have not seen since college and some word problems I believe. I have read online that they combine your total math score, so I am praying that is the case. I will be on pins and needles until December, since that is when I believe the letters will be sent out. I am so eager to start school and I would love to go to MCVTS.

CONGRATS!! IT FEELS GREAT DOESN'T IT!!:yeah::lol2:

I'm trying to decide whether or not to attend MCVTS in the fall. I have been accepted; my only dilemma is that I want to attend an lpn-rn bridge after, and eventually continue my education further to get my BSN.

Do you guys know people that have successfully achieved their RNs after completing this program? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I did what you are doing. I got my LPN and am currently enrolled in the Brookdale bridge program. Hopefully graduating this May :yeah:. The good thing is that you can work while you wait. The only bad thing is that LPN positions in central NJ for new graduates are very limited. Good Luck.

I know of one poster on here (don't want to give his name w out permission) that went to mcvts and bridged to rn online. A few of the graduating seniors I talked to also were accepted to bridge programs.

There are a couple routes available... Online, muhlenburgh school of nursing and Trinitas hospital are a few. It's definitely a good path to choose if you have to work in addition to going to school. I'm planning on muhlenburgh for my associates, then eventually going for my bsn.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask and I'll help the best I can!

I've decided that I'm definitely going to attend MCVTS in the fall. Very excited!

I've already taken Anatomy and physiology, microbiology, psychology, sociology.. Do you know if it'll be possible for me not to have to take these classes or is it a strict program?
