Confused Adn Student Looking For Crna Advice Plz!

:nurse: Hi guys,

i'm currently an adn student. I have a few questions

and would be grateful for any little bit of advice i get.

does rn-msn not already include bsn?

Can i become a crna via rn-msn route?

from start to finish how long is the process (adn-crna)?

any recommendations on the path i should take? I am 25

and would like to start a family in the near future but not

sure what to do as i want to make sure b4 i do that i have

a stable career backing me.

it all depends on the school you're going to as to time, but rn-msn should include your bsn as far as i know. also before you get into a crna program you'll need 1 or 2 years of work as an RN in a critical care setting...some schools want 1 some want 2. i'm guessing but i think the program might take 3 years, but again that's a guess. contact the school's to be sure.

sounds like you are in the same boat I am. I posted a similar question in the pre-crna forum.

In my area RN~MSN includes BSN...you just go straight thru since you've already taken the NCLEX, but you get all the same classes than if you had done each degree separate.

Route? I was told that usually most applicants have their BSN, because CRNA is a MSN program. In my case, I think I will do RN~MSN anyway in case I don't get into CRNA school, or if life happens and I am unable to go...at least I will have my MSN anyway.

Time? Well, that is variant on your current nursing programs plus experience in an ICU/CCU or whatever is required by your CRNA program. Then add another 24-32 months for the actual NA program and you will have it figured out.

I would recommend waiting to have kids until after CRNA school because it is so demanding. Most times it is recommended that you don't work either. But maybe some current CRNAs can tell you more...

The anesthesia programs currently available require the BSN first, or at least some type of Bachelor's degree. You cannot enter with just the ADN.

You will also need at least one year of Critical Care Esperience before starting a program.

I highly suggest that you you shadow a CRNA for a few days and perhaps at a few different facilities to see if that is what you really want to do. It is a long road ahead of you, and there will be sacrifices that will need to be made along the way.

it def will be a long road but it is something that i am willing and want to do. i am just at the beginning, and i wanted to be able to picture the path i have to take from another's perspective. Thanks for the feedback
