Hello all!!! For the past several days I have been conflicted on the next step I would need to take to become a nurse. I recently became certified as a CNA, although this might be beneficial in the long run I really love being in the OR and was considering becoming a certified Surgical Tech. I already hold a BA so the I won't be in the program that long since I have completed all the general ed courses. Can someone please give me some insight or advice as what I should do next, would it be a waste of valuable time? (I'm 28 yrs old and don't want to be in school too long) It will be greatly appreciated :)

Your best bet is to probably call the nursing schools around you to make sure you have everything you need to apply. Because you have a bachelors already, you can also apply for an accelerated bachelors, which can often be completed in as little as one year.

If your goal is to be a nurse and you already have your Bachelors, why would you waste your time pursuing Surgical Tech? Apply for the accelerated or 2nd degree RN programs in your area, get your RN and then focus the area you're interested in. Why waste money on something that isn't what you ultimately want to do?

As a surgical tech, you will always have to work in a OR, maybe OB, and few other areas that use surgical instruments. As a nurse, you can work in the OR, but you can also work anywhere else. If you decide you don't actually like the OR as much as you do before spending time in it, you can pick another specialty and try again.
