Concordia University Texas ABSN

Has anyone applied to the Concordia University Texas ABSN program? If so, please share your stats! When did you apply? Were you accepted, denied? Overall GPA, Nursing Science GPA? Did you ever have to retake a course that you didn't do so well on, early in your college career, and have it affect your admission to CTX ABSN?

Their website makes it seem like as long as you meet the minimum GPA/prerequisite requirements, and check all the other boxes- there is a spot for you. If you did poorly in a class before, it's okay- they will accept your most recent grade that you are happy with and only calculate that in your GPA. (Huge benefit to someone who messed up early on in college, but got put back on the right class and redeemed themselves after retaking a couple courses!)

Is it too good to be true? I know tuition is expensive, but I have GI Bill funding so that's not so much of a concern.

I'm just wondering if this school is as competitive as the rest, or maybe not as much due to the private university cost associated with attending there.

Also, if you went through this program- how was it?

I'm going to track my own experience here in case any one is looking for this info in the future! :)

I spoke with an admissions counselor and was given the following info:

-Courses are online, but exams must be taken on campus once per week.

-There is a 7-8 hour skills lab on campus once per week.

-There is one 12 hour day per week devoted to clinicals. The sites change according to what you're learning about, but you get to choose what day and time to attend and you know the schedule at the beginning of each semester.

I am applying with a 3.29 overall GPA from my previous degree and a 4.0 nursing science GPA.

They calculate your nursing science GPA based on your most recent grade. So, for someone like me who didn't do well during the first year of college (12 years ago) and got a bad grade in psychology and A&P1, it's not going to be held against me forever! They used my retakes, which were A's.

I am applying for August 2019 start date, but I still have some prerequisites to complete, so it will be a few months before I complete those and submit my application. I'll update once I have an acceptance or denial.

Hey, I just came upon this program. I've only been to public, non-religious schools (high school, university, and community college classes), so I've never taken any religious classes like the ones I see on the prerequisite list for Concordia. Have you taken those already, or do you plan to take them before the start of the program? Did they say anything about that?

I am considering applying to this program once I've completed my Associates my only worry is time honestly. I will have to work part time while completing the ABSN in order to afford it. Does anyone know if this seems plausible?

I applied to this program and I was accepted. I am due to start my nursing classes in May. The admissions process wasn't too painful and I received a decision within a week of submitting my completed file. I was almost turned away at the religious aspect of it as I have a different denomination, but so far so good. You are required to take Old Testament and New Testament, but I'm viewing it just like studying any other topic.

I assume you are in the program now and ready to graduate. How was it? the clinicals? are you feeling they are academically strong and prepared you well for the job market? I hope you can tell me your impression and experience about it

I just applied to this program for fall 2020, but trying to get more student feedback on the program overall. I'm assuming youre still in the program? how are you liking it, and any pros and cons?

And if anyone else see's this post who is a Concordia ABSN Austin student, please respond as well. anything would help!

I really need this feedback, there Nuclex passing rate is high since they opened. I tried to find this feedback online, including contacting other students but in vain.

Greetings, Yes. I am currently in the program and I am graduating this semester. The program was high-paced but doable. We had several different locations for clinical sites and got to float to different departments. We've had to take our last semester completely virtual due to the pandemic. In the final semester, you actually have a class that helps you to prepare for the NCLEX. I will try to come back here if you guys have more questions.

1.I didn't see pathophysiology in the plan ? is it distributed among the courses?

2. What is your evaluation of the program ? do you recommend it? do you feel it provides you with solid and academic base?

Pathophysiology is embedded in the Adult Theory courses. There are a total of 4 Adult theory courses. You will also have 2 pharmacology courses. I definitely feel prepared to be a successful RN. For the first semester we had 1 skills lab, 1 clinical session, and 1 simulation class each week. They really jump right in and teach you valuable skills that are needed for each clinical experience. The Adult Health classes are in an online format, so you do need self-discipline to complete the work, but most professors offer live review sessions and are accessible to help you as needed.

Thank you very much for the information. one last question, do you think we need to purchase NCLEX book to practice for other classes like med-surg? I mean as practice questions?
