U.S.A. California

Hello everyone

Now that the due date is less than a week, I wanted to start a fresh thread for those who are applying for summer 2012.

Let me introduce myself first..

As you can tell from my user name I am a husband and a daddy (two year old daughter and soon to be born baby boy). I did my undergrad at USC (biology) but worked in the restaurant business for 5 years. I always wanted to work in health related field so that's why I am applying to Concordia!

For application, I am done except for the statement of intent, hopefully I will be done by this weekend!

I would like to wish nothing but the best for everyone!!

Let's get this thread rolling~

Anyone else exhausted after this morning??? What a great day! It is overwhelming what a great group they have to choose from. I can see how it would be a really tough process to get the pool down to 40! The faculty were all so kind. It makes me more excited than ever to get started.Just for the lurkers, I thought I would write down the questions I could remember so that if anyone is thinking about applying in the future, you might know what to expect... Do you expect to work while in the program?how do you deal with failure? Give an example? How do you do with criticism? Give an example. Are you a leader or a follower? Explain.Define what critical thinking is and how it relates to the profession of nursing. What do you expect from a career in nursing?what sets you apart from the other candidates? What are your strengths coming into an accelerated program? What weaknesses could take you away? How do you feel about policy and procedure? Define chain of command.what 3 words do you think described nursing today? Are you the type of person who jumps right in or feels the waters first? Those are the ones I can think of off the bat... it was a long morning but really pretty great. Can you guys think of others I missed?BTW, CubanRob, I think I saw you from a distance... sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi! Hope you felt good about the morning!

I think you got most of it. I'm in a daze because it was just a blur, but I felt I had a really good morning. The staff were definately wonderful and really gracious. My group was awesome and they were on thier game. I think the next few weeks are definately gonna be torture. I thought waiting for the invite to interview was tough, geez. The wait for a final decision will be brutal. I will be hounding my E-mail and phone. We should have had a "Allnurses" meeting just to put a face to the username.

CubanRob, glad it was a good morning for you too! Hopefully we will have the chance to put faces to names in the future :) I was happy to hear that the letters should be out by Easter! It makes the wait a little shorter than I had originally anticipated. Still gruelling though!!Is there any update from the Friday group? I thought it was interesting that there were 3 open spaces in the Monday interviews. We also had a no-show in our group. I wonder if the Friday group was totally full? If not, that brings the applicant pool down by a few more.Anyway, as you can see, I am kinda obsessing right now :) Hoping the next couple weeks move along quickly...BTW, I apologize for my formatting. For some reason when I post on my phone it doesn't convert my formatting so it looks like one big paragraph: (

Jess, on top of the 3 open spots, you had a no show?. Awesome, chances increased ever so slightly. I wonder if there's anyone from my group checking out this forum?

Yep! So that means the applicant pool may be down to 76 rather than 80 if it was supposed to be an even 40/40 split. That is why I am curious as to what Friday looked like.

Friday had a couple no shows too. None in my particular group, but I think 4 total

The only thing I've done today is some yard work. Is it weird that the news of 8 people not attending and helping to increase our chances has made my day? Also, I dislike using this site on a mobile device.

In my particular group on Friday all 8 of us were there. I don't know about any no shows in the other groups. I sure hope there were. How did everyone feel about the interview in general? The waiting is going to be so hard.

I felt I did well. During a couple questions I felt as if I was rambling. One thing that I noticed was that if I answered first, I would kick myself later for forgetting things I told myself to say during my prep. I would sit there and hear people saying something I should have said. Like dang I should have said that or dang it I forgot to say that. Oh well, outta my hands now.

Rob, that was totally me too!! And I went first often cause my name was first on the group list. I am the type to always see room for improvement anyway, so I suppose it is to be expected. All in all, it was a great morning.Wow, 8 down... I will take it. :)

That's funny. I'm sure a lot of people had the same reaction as they heard everyone answer. Well, I guess we can't truly confirm 8 did not show up reducing the numbers. I do know they said 80 were interviewed and on our sheet I counted 37 in our group on Monday. At least we know 3 to 4 didn't show Monday. So, like you, I'll take it. At this point, I'll take whatever little encouragement or hope to make myself think I have a better chance of getting in. Also, is it odd that I calculated my chances depending on how many they interviewed. Like you, at this point, I might be obsessing a bit. I would say so. What else would I have to do ( can't find sarcasm button)
