Hey guys! Has anyone else been recently accepted into the nursing program?

Silverdragon102, I do not believe anyone has attacked anyone else on this board. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

The post was deleted and the reason to my post was a reminder

Right - so anyway, I'm really looking forward to the Fall. :specs:

Hey guys - I deleted my facebook account because it was too much of a time drain for me. I had forgotten about our little Concordia group though, which was great, and I'm going to miss being able to chat with you guys. It's really liberating not being on facebook anymore though...I highly recommend it! Anyway, please let me know on here if you decide to meet up before classes start!

Sometimes I strongly consider deleting it, but I honestly don't think I could! When school starts I will probably impose strict rules for when I allow myself to log on.

I'd really love to do a meet-up! I'll ask the Facebook group what their availability is. What's yours?

~Lena

You are quick Lena! I'm pretty flexible, especially if we plan it for a couple weeks out. Maybe on a Sat or Sun towards the end of June? Starbucks maybe or somewhere else to chat? I know there is one in Bronxville with outside seating which might be nice. But I'm easy - whatever works for you and the rest!

Did anyone choose an orientation date yet?

To all Fall 2012 students - a giant congrats! I'll never forget the day I received my admissions letter :) As a current student, I just had to come in and address posts from "gerim" and "dr. martin" who I strongly suspect are the same person. I will not go through the sordid details of the real reasons why this student was removed but I can say that his own actions are to blame.

In regards to his...

Remarks about the teachers - well there have been a few teachers that have not been quite up to par. Sometimes these experiences were very frustrating but you do the work and you make it through!

Simulations - "dr martin" revealed how they switched from the mannequins to online simulation software. that only happened in this cohort so his supposed girlfriend who already graduated wouldn't have experienced that, huh? Anyway, I completely agree that the new simulation is just about pointless, especially compared to the costly mannequins that are gathering dust. I hope they are able to go back to that for you guys :)

Books - I would definitely ignore the advice not to buy the books. I would buy them at amazon or half.com and perhaps the earlier edition to save money but your best bet is to read as much as you can. There are only a couple of classes where I would suggest only using the teacher provided powerpoints and class notes. The majority of the time, you will be reading!

Clinicals - yes, like teachers, there are varying levels of efficient teaching that go on in the hospitals. Sometimes you hear of groups getting out ridiculously early and thats non-productive. But for the most part we are there the full time and believe me, when you make it to those final hours you and your clinical group will be practically begging to go home - everyone wants a great clinical experience but with the accelerated nature of the program and all the work that goes into it, you will not mind leaving a little early. And I can honestly say I have learned a lot from from the clinicals.

There are going to be complaints about programs no matter where you go. I too read the reviews about Pace on this site and decided not to go there. I wouldn't want the bitter views of another to scare you away or give you second thoughts. I still stand by my decision to go to Concordia so that should say something. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!!

I'm so happy to finally read a positive review from a current student! Eventide, thank you for writing. This definitely makes me feel a lot better, even though I knew I made the right decision with Concordia all along. Thanks again for the positive energy! :nurse:

Hi Eventide! Thanks for stopping by to offer your insight and congratulations on doing so well at Concordia! I was wondering if you could tell us how large your incoming class was and how many students have dropped out or failed out of the class so far? Any tips for avoiding such a fate?

Hi everyone my name is Katie, I am new to this site and I just wanted to say hi to all of my future classmates. I was also accepted into the Fall 2012 program at Concordia. I am excited and nervous but I feel somewhat relieved after reading all of your posts. I have no doubt that we will all form a strong bond, which will of course help us all in the end. I am currently working at a hospital and I often see the nursing students coming in to do their clinicals, its interesting to see how close they all have gotten to eachother. I will be commuting from Stony Point, NY. I was wondering if anyone else here lives around this area....car pooling may be a consideration for the future, especially considering the toll on the TZ bridge....$5 a day certainly adds up. Anyway, I will be attending the June 14th orientation session, anyone else attending that day?

Look forward to meeting you all :)
