Concordia College NY - Fall 2012

U.S.A. New York

Hey guys! Has anyone else been recently accepted into the nursing program?

Congrats everyone! I would definitely be interested in meeting up with you guys, just let me know when and where. :)

I'm in the North Bronx too - in Woodlawn. It's only a 10 minute commute to campus - can't beat it! I am 28, married, and have a 15 month old son. I've been warning my husband too about how I'll be MIA during the program and he is incredibly supportive. Although I know school will be hard on me, I know it will be much harder on the two of them...so I'm really lucky that my husband is so behind me on this. I like to throw in comments like "if this is what the kitchen looks like now, imagine what it's going to look like when I'm in school!", etc. I'm also letting him golf till his hearts desire this spring and summer, because he won't get one day next year! Hopefully if I give him enough advanced warning he won't be totally suprised by what's going to hit him!

I never thought I would get in so I almost didn't apply...but I'm so happy now that I did! I've already sent in my deposit and have my physical scheduled for tomorrow. I wish it was the Fall already! :specs:

Lenabeth, I think we are out of luck for Financial Aid as second degree students as you said, except for filing FAFSA for government loans - not great I know...

I received my acceptance letter! :) I think it actually came last Wednesday and I didn't see it. My boyfriend found it in a pile of mail that had been sitting on the table lol.

I am so relieved and excited. One step closer now.

I live in Bronxville and planning to resign from my job at the end of June. I am nervous about that, but my boyfriend is very supportive so I am lucky. Does anyone know if you can purchase health insurance through the school?

Congrats Colleen! Glad you found the letter, ha! Yes, you can purchase health insurance through the school. I think I read somewhere that it was $800 per year, but don't quote me on that number...

KatyCar, have you read the thread about Pace's Accelerated Program? The stories of former students from the program are unbelievable... I believe 85% of the class was kicked out of the program, which included a doctor from another country. They were also mentioning the program is extremely disorganized and the teachers are terrible. I'm not sure if the same issues are going on since the posts were from about 2 years ago I believe. In the same thread, it was also mentioned that the program in Pleasantville is a little better but not by much. Those stories were enough to scare me away from Pace. Maybe things have changed over there, but I'm not willing to take any chances and then regret my decision later on. Have you decided if you're still going to apply to Pace?

I've decided I'm not applying anywhere else! It just doesn't make sense to. I had a great experience at Concordia the day I went for my interview. I love the campus and the faculty was also so friendly and welcoming. I have a great feeling about this program!

I was hoping someone could answer my question about the FAFSA. When filling out the section asking what degree will you be obtaining, do we check off "2nd Bachelor's Degree" or "Graduate degree"? I wasn't sure, because both criteria could apply. I called Financial aid and left them a message, but no one has gotten back to me yet.

Congrats, Colleen!

MMGF - Maybe we can discuss carpooling! I live in Norwood. Not too far.

I am still trying to get my deposit $ together. I also have to think about how/where to get my PPD test and urinalysis. I don't have health insurance and on a very limited budget so I'm afraid I'm gonna get hit with a medical bill I can't afford. Suggestions?

I think we should plan a meet-up for May or June. What do you guys think? I'd also be happy to have coffee or something with anyone in the mean time. Shoot me and email and we'll chat!

Congrats to all the new additions!

Glad you found the envelope Colleen!

Miss Mel - I did read the thread about Pace, and thought I would take it with a grain of salt, plus I really wanted to start in Sept. so kept it on my list. But I had put off finishing the application until this weekend! must have been fate! I thought about it all day Friday and realized there really was no point in applying anywhere else!! I had all the same great feelings you mentioned while I was at Concordia, so realized, why even second guess that!

I believe for the FAFSA 2nd degree/Bachelors is more accurate since we will finish with a BSN, not a masters. I know for Pace it was considered Graduate since it was a combined degree program. I completed mine about a month ago, do I need to go back and update/confirm that I am going to Concordia? I'll have to check that.

Lenabeth- when I had no insurance I went to a place here in Queens called FirstMed, not sure if there is anything like that in your area, I don't remember the cost.... and when I had to get pre-employment tests done my work sent me to the same FirstMed and it was covered thru work. Maybe ask at Concordia if they have a suggestion of where to go, too bad they can't do it there!

I would love to meet up! I'm in classes until about mid-June so probably won't be able to do something until after then.

:yeah:

I have to do my FAFSA asap. Thanks for the help KatyCar! I definitely think you made the right decision about Concordia.

I finish classes in early May but I would definitely love to meet up if you guys plan anything!

Ahhhhh I'm sooooo excited for this all to start!

Is anyone still paying off old student loans? If so, are you using the same company to take out new ones for this program? Just not sure how the process works. I suppose someone at the financial aid office might be able to assist me, but checking here first. Thanks, everyone!

Also, I'm having a tough time tracking down my immunization records. My primary doesn't have them anymore as I have not been to him in more than 10 years. I've only been to my OBGYN and urgent care since them. Urgent care doesn't have them and I left a message with my OBGYN, but I don't see why she would. I left a message with my undergrad college so fingers crossed that they still have them (it's been almost 9 years since graduation)! Any other ideas?

Hey guys, my name's Samantha. I was accepted to the program at Concordia about three weeks ago and just found this forum. Like a lot of you guys mentioned, I also applied to Pace (NYC campus) and was scared away by the comments made about the program, specifically with how disorganized they are. I had experience with this disorganization.. they were claiming they didn't have my recommendations and asked them to be resent. I had them sent a second time and when I called to confirm they had gotten my recommendations, the guy on the phone seemed annoyed with me that I had called and because they "never needed a second copy since they already had a copy on file" After that, I decided that they are probably still as disorganized as the reviews said!

But, I am extremely excited about Concordia- I am definitely going. I am just EXTREMELY nervous about the financial obligations. Not only do I need loans for the school, I am going to have to take out loans for an apartment. I am from central NJ so commuting isn't really an option (it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get the Concordia). So I am just very nervous about taking out such a large amount of loans.

I would love to meet up whenever you guys decide to. I am still a senior in college and don't graduate until the middle of May so I wouln't be able to meet up until after that. But please let me know!

Congrats to all have been accepted and good luck to those still waiting!!

Congrats, sattanasio! I wouldn't freak out too much about how much you need to borrow. That's something to think about afterwards. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. Do you have the option of living on campus? I'm not sure if that would be cheaper or not, but maybe worth looking into?

Hi allCongrats on everyone's acceptance! I too was accepted to concordia's fall 2012 program. I decided about 2 weeks ago to go there. I was torn between them and in Philly; but with it only being an 11 month program people told me I'd be insane to do it. I'm very excited for Concordia and look forward to meeting you all and getting to know my/our support system for the next year and a half.
