Hi,

Can you share where you got this information from? I have had no luck finding any info.

Thanks

if you go back on the forum you will see the information from last class-just read the whole thing

I received a letter in the mail today with specific dates for the orientation in June. You should be receiving the information soon.

Hey class of 2012!! I am currently a student at Concordia. If you guys have any questions regarding the program, let me know. I know I was in your shoes last year and had mixed feelings of excitement and fear coming into the program. I heard orientation is coming up soon and you'll get a lot of information regarding uniforms, books to order, schedule, etc. I'm not sure when it'll be exactly but we're all on campus til July 1st. :) so you'll see us walking around or hanging out in the library. We're the only students in the building so you can stop any of us and ask questions also :)

Thanks for posting! How do you like the schools program? professors, clinicals? What is the schedule like?

Thank you sooo much, glad to know we're not alone and best of luck!!!

Well the campus itself is nice and small. Food is expensive so plan on making your own lunch. There's a fridge/microwave in the resource room where you can leave your food. The professors are okay. Theyre pretty good in a sense that they are willing to help students and all of them are very approachable. Clinicals are all over Westchester. Our first rotation was at a nursing home. Then for MedSurg we were at the hospital once a week for 12 hours. This year we were able to rotate to Montefiore hospitals so that was a good experience. The school or program is not perfect but its a working progress. As you all know, it's a new program so dont expect eaverything to be so organize. Although they do try very hard to be. I think from what wae hear from other schools, Concordia is one of the better ones out there. We actually met a nurse from clinical rotation that went to Pace for the ABSN program and she said out of 100 students who started only 50 of them who graduated. I heard it's bad out there. In our class there were a few people who decelerated. We started with 39 and now down to 34 I think. Were all like a family since we see each other all day everytime. Youll get to know people quick. There are going to be people who complain about little things all time but you just have to stay positive and get through it. Dr. Apold is awesome. You will enjoy her lectures. I'd suggest though that all of you enjoy summer and do everything you want to do now! Because once the program starts, your life will change very quickly. They will pretty much own you for 15 months and that's not even an exageration. You really need to plan accordingly because sometimes there will be some last minute changes on the schedule. But like I said, its part of owning you. Invest in a good NClex book or two. This is how we study for exams.. Dave is our lab director and he is very good! He is in charge of all of the simulations and you will learn so much from him. He loves when students hang out and ask him questions so you can go to him for anything...

Thank you for your quick response! What are must have supplies that you think are essential? did you use a voice recorder for lectures?

Well I started by taking notes traditionally with a tape recorder. Writing notes just became too tedious for me because I found myself rewriting everything to make it neat. But now I bring my laptop and type my notes instead. It's alot easier for me since all notes are posted on blackboard and in a powerpoint format. All I do is save it directly and open it in class. Tape recorders definitely help especially if you learn better that way. They dont mind that. I also forgot to mention that were in our maternity and peds rotation so we have clinical twice a week now. So you might want to get 2 pair of scrubs if you hate doing laundry lol some students only have one pair since they were pretty pricey. we were all required to buy it from their affiliated company. I think for your class theyre trying a new compny hopefully it'tll be cheaper for you guys. Sorry for the tyoos. Im not used to typing on an ipad.

Thanks for all of the info ynabeana! Just wondering if you commute or live on campus? I'll be commuting from NJ so I wanted to know how some of the commuter students are handling the schedule. Also there are two dates for the mini orientation and I'll be attending on the 15th. Anyone else going that day too?
